Prince Andrew's painful Newsnight interview

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

and we know that Andrew hates paying for anything, even the final payment for his Swiss Chalet. He will be crying into his caviar watching all his money being syphoned away into the hands of lawyers. I hope the Queen ensures he is thoroughly broke before she pays anything.
I bet m'learned friends who are working for Andrew are starting to get nervous.
If he doesn't pay their bill, what are they going to do - sue him?

Prince Andrew to give evidence under oath in sex abuse lawsuit

London: Britain’s Prince Andrew will give evidence next month in the sex abuse lawsuit brought by Virginia Giuffre, a source close to the prince says.

The Duke of York, who denies accusations that he sexually abused Giuffre two decades ago when she was 17, will speak under oath in London, the London Telegraph newspaper reported.

“We agreed to voluntarily produce the Duke for a deposition on March 10. Despite repeated requests, Ms Giuffre still hasn’t committed to a date or location for her deposition,” the source told Reuters.

Andrew will be questioned in a session that is expected to last two days. The Telegraph reported that lawyers will also interview Shukri Walker, who allegedly saw Andrew and Giuffre together at a nightclub 20 years ago, and a former member of the royal staff, Robert Ashton Olney.

The linked article concludes as follows:
Andrew has not been criminally charged, and no criminal charges can be brought in Giuffre’s civil lawsuit.

No, but criminal charges can be brought for perjury that takes place under oath in a civil case.
That Newsnight interview will be brought up. If he walks back on anything he said in it, he'll look "unreliable". If he sticks to everything, he had better be sure he's right.
In this way, a civil case is more dangerous than a criminal case. No defendant in a criminal case is subsequently prosecuted for perjury if he loses and is found guilty. But litigants in civil cases who are found to have lied under oath to support their case are prosecuted. Look at Archer and Aitken.

Prince Andrew’s lawyers to interview accuser Virginia Giuffre in person

Prince Andrew’s accuser will be interviewed under oath about her claim that she was raped and sexually abused by the prince when she was 17. The prince’s lawyer, Andrew Brettler, will in April question Virginia Roberts Giuffre in person either in the US or Australia, where she has a home. The date was agreed in the last 24 hours after Andrew’s legal team expressed frustration that she had not committed to a timeframe.

Prince Andrew will be interviewed under oath at a “neutral” location in London on March 10. David Boies, counsel for Giuffre, is expected to fly to the UK to conduct the interview, which could last two days.

The prince is being prepared for the interview by his UK-based legal team and advisers. His disastrous Newsnight performance, in November 2019, has prompted fears that he will not perform well under pressure. Legal experts have warned that he may unwittingly walk into a trap set by Boies, who is considered an extremely skilled deposition-taker.

Boies will then interview Shukri Walker, a woman who is alleged to have seen the prince and Giuffre together at a London nightclub on the first night he is alleged to have abused her, and Robert Olney, the prince’s former equerry.

Brettler will also interview Giuffre’s husband and her psychologist as each side seeks to gather evidence.

Judge Lewis Kaplan has ordered lawyers representing the prince and Giuffre to file a joint update on the status of witness interviews, document requests and planned timetables by March 7. The evidence gathering process is due to be completed by July 14.

The prince’s deposition could be made public even if he settles out of court, raising the prospect that he may soon offer Giuffre up to £10 million ($18 million) to settle her claim. Legal experts have warned he faces the “very real risk” that the contents of his deposition could become public, either as part of evidence submitted at trial, unsealed by a court in separate or later proceedings, or even leaked.

If there’s one thing to be learned from this, it’s not to allow yourself to be photographed in close proximity to a member of the opposite sex who isn’t your spouse.
Perhaps in time the real truth about what actually went on between those two will be revealed, but at the moment it seems to be a case of her word against his, with the whole case being centered around a single photograph, a photograph that could be interpreted in several ways.
Without that photograph this would be a non story.
No wonder Keanu Reeves always makes it perfectly clear his hands are nowhere near the body of any fan who wants a picture/selfie taken with him.

I reckon he shagged her, probably more than once, she was right up for it and everyone was happy. 20 year later, the opportunity to extract millions of dollars from him is irresistible (as he once was) and this grubby spectacle is the result. This is what happens when Princes and Dukes sleep with 'below stairs' class people, a lesson painfully learnt by so many of the aristocracy but one that seems to have passed him by.

It could be worse, at least she isn't claiming paternity of an year ugly 20 year old child.
