And now we know why this same deputy health minister appeared so ill at that news conference.CEOCambodiaNews wrote:Coronavirus: Iran denies cover-up as seven deaths reported in Italy
Tehran rejects claim death toll is more than four times higher than official figures suggest
But the country’s deputy health minister rejected the report. In a news conference broadcast live on state television, Iraj Harirchi said 12 people had died from the coronavirus and 66 had been infected. “I categorically deny this information,” he said, adding: “This is not the time for political confrontations. The coronavirus is a national problem.”

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
I have been alive quite a long time and never seen anything like this, even through the SARS and MERS issues, not so much the death rate as about 18,000 died due to the H1N1 virus between 2009 and 2010 but the precautions and response, I'm not sure the governments are telling the public all that they know.

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
There is are reasons behind the "unique indifference" of the Cambodian PM.
Cambodia's Unique Indifference To The Coronavirus
Tuesday, 25 February 2020, 4:25 pm
Article: Richard S. Ehrlich
BANGKOK, Thailand -- Cambodia's authoritarian leader HE is not
panicking about the possibility of the deadly coronavirus killing
anyone in his Southeast Asian nation.
And he's not evacuating Cambodians trapped in China where more than
1,000 people have perished from the disease.
Instead, Prime Minister HE told Cambodians to stay and experience
Wuhan's dystopian lockdown.
He also allowed more than 2,000 people, including about 600 Americans,
to dock in Cambodia's port after their Westerdam cruise ship was
turned away by five countries amid fears that it might carry a
coronavirus victim.
On February 16, an 83-year-old American passenger from the Westerdam
reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus when she arrived in
neighboring Malaysia.
HE earlier said everyone else in Cambodia should strip off their
medical face mask and refuse to wear it.
"The prime minister doesn’t wear a mask, so why do you?” he angrily
railed at reporters during a recent news conference in the capital
Phnom Penh.
Asked about evacuating 23 reportedly healthy Cambodian students stuck
in Wuhan, he replied, “We are keeping them there to share [China's]
happiness and pain, and to help them solve this situation.
"Evacuating them would probably bring an end to opportunities for
Cambodians to study there. China would stop offering scholarships.”
HE also rejected demands to ban flights from China, which
reportedly flew at least 3,000 Chinese direct from Wuhan to Cambodia
this year.

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
From the Guardian newspaper.
Europe on alert as four more Covid-19 deaths reported in Italy
Here’s a summary of what has happened on Tuesday [25 February 2020]:
Italian authorities updated the death toll in the country to 11. Four additional deaths were reported in the country on Tuesday.
New cases were confirmed in Spain and Switzerland. Concerns were growing at the spread of the virus on mainland Europe.
A hotel in Tenerife where an Italian man who has tested positive for coronavirus was staying has been put on lockdown. One thousand guests at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel have been placed in isolation to halt any further spread of the disease. One British holidaymaker has described the situation as a “holiday from hell”.
Travellers returning to the UK from northern Italy may need to self-isolate as part of measures to stop the spread of coronavirus. Official government advice has been changed to say that those who have been to northern Italy, north of Pisa, should self-isolate if they develop flu-like symptoms on their return to the UK.
Britons who have been in lockdown regions of Italy, including those in the Lombardy and Veneto region, should self-isolate at home for 14 days even if they have no symptoms.
Some schools in the UK have closed or sent pupils home because they had recently returned from skiing visits to northern Italy.
In Iran, the death toll due to the coronavirus has reached 16, a health ministry official told state TV on Tuesday. Iran has the highest number of deaths from coronavirus outside China, where the virus emerged late last year. The deputy health minister, Iraj Harirchi, has been infected and is under quarantine.
Italian authorities announced on Tuesday the first positive coronavirus case in the south of Italy. A woman from Bergamo, who was on holiday with her friends in Sicily, has tested positive for Covid-19.
Croatia and Austria became the latest European countries to confirm cases of coronavirus.

Although death rate an infections are slowing down in China, its hitting many more countries as the incubation period means more are infected before they locked it down in China.."Experts say particularly covert cases of coronavirus could even attract an incubation period of up to 42 days."!!!!!
80,994 infected....2,760 deaths...30,000 recovered
40 countries infected
1,146 in South Korea
322 Italy
170 Japan ( not including the cruise ship)
95 Iran
91 Singapore

https://www.stripes.com/news/pacific/so ... s-1.620320SEOUL, South Korea — An American soldier has tested positive for the coronavirus at a base in the South Korean area that has been hardest hit by a recent outbreak, the military said Wednesday.
The 23-year-old male soldier, stationed at Camp Carroll, is the first U.S. service member to be confirmed with the infection, although a widowed dependent also was reported to be infected earlier this week.

If that's true then I can't see how this thing can ever be effectively controlled at all.."Experts say particularly covert cases of coronavirus could even attract an incubation period of up to 42 days."!!!!!
They're just about ready to officially call it a pandemic anyway.
Stocks are in a meltdown. Analysts are saying don't expect a quick bounce back as the effects on the global economy could last much longer than people think

i was in USA in December and needed to get back to Siem Reap.
Because of the protests in Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific lowered its rates below China Eastern and China Southern...I prefer Hong Kong airport over mainland anyway.
I was so fucking lucky to get back on January 20th to Siem Reap and avoid this plague.
I sat next to a Chinese American who was heading to the mainland for 2 weeks to see her elderly mother for New Year's....
I need to go back to the USA in the next 4-6 months.
Buying a ticket is a complete clusterfuck right now.
Avoiding Chinese airports...airlines is tough...
Siem Reap gives little choice..I looked at PP and Bangkok.
My idea to fly to Seoul or Tokyo has been monkey wrenched by the latest outbreaks.
I will wait and see ....
I sure don't trust the Chinese to report anything near the truth....
I guess I will just hit the pool and keep a low profile in beautiful Siem Reap....
Traveling on a plane and stopping in a huge airport seems like a huge risk...
There are so many economic factors about to come into play in the next few months if this plague continues to spread.
Big business better learn that the present supply chain has a monster problem ....
Inventories across the globe will run low and the model of relying on China is going to have to be revaluated....to say the least.

25/2/2020 4:06 pm
The Embassy of the Kingdom of Cambodia in South Korea has informed all Cambodian citizens living and working in Korea that a sick Cambodian worker working in area 041, does not have the Covid-19 coronavirus. They say that doctors have confirmed that the worker did not carry the coronavirus and so far, no Cambodian has the virus.
The Cambodian Embassy in South Korea urges all Khmer citizens in Korea to continue to perform their daily tasks, work in accordance with the instructions of the Korean factory, enterprise, farm or other institution, and to follow the instructions provided by the Korean authorities. And, especially, don't believe fake news on some social media that is even more scary than the facts.
