Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches

Vaccines for SARS were problematic to develop . Many potiential vaccines turned out worse than not having vaccine in trials. So a vaccine for this Wuhan virus is likely sometime away.

The key is to keep the number of infections below the point where medical facilities are over run. Countries outside China seem to be doing this. Very poor countries yet to see a widespread outbreak are the next major concern. They just won't cope.

I guess males over 60 years of age who smoke or used to smoke need to be extra carefull!!!! They show up highest in risk especilly if they have high blood pressure etc.

they said this morning on the news it could take up to 18 months to develop a vaccine
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

What would happen in the “free world” if infected people don’t want to be isolated in a hospital? Like i said in the other topic, China is better equipped to handle this than any western country.

As they should be........seeing as how most of this shit starts over there............what with their predilection for eating pangolin testicles and bat eyeballs from unsanitary, unhygienic black markets. :thumb:

Think this is going to have a big effect on tourism in Asian countries. I'm now to a trip in the Philippines and it's so easy to book hotels last-minute! Every con has a pro, but let's hope doctors can develop a vaccine asap!

The UK just upgraded it's powers over the weekend to provide themselves with the legal authority to force quarantine, it was because one of the person evacuated from Wuhan was threatening to abscond.

I expect many countries already have such powers in place or will quickly create such powers.

Dr Amesh Adalja is a senior scholar of the John Hopkins University Centre for Health Security.

He was on the radio station from the UK saying that this virus is out there and is almost certainly beyond containment and will likely become the 5th corona virus that does the round annually. He suggested authorities better start preparing the public to accept this fact.
This is based on the fact that it was out there well before the containment procedures we activated and the efficiency of transmission.
It was pretty sobering stuff. We better just get ready for it.

I did an audio clip. It is only a 2.45 long, it is well worth a listen but I have no idea how to upload it. Any suggestions?
