Interesting to see how Cambodia deals with all the potential cases after LNY, how (un)robust is the health system?

Due to the developing situation in China and Asia concerning the Wuhan Coronavirus, we will be operating this article as a running live update service to keep businesses involved in the ASEAN region updated with the latest relevant regional news. Note the potential for cases to rise in Thailand and Vietnam, given their popularity and ease of access by Chinese nationals over the Lunar New Year festivities is of particular concern. India also appears to be at risk.

One case confirmed.
Concerns as 3,000 Chinese from Wuhan visited Sihanoukville and Siem Reap during the Lunar New Year.
Cambodia has suspended all trade in wild animals.
Cambodia has confirmed its first case, an elderly Chinese man on New Year vacation with his family.

Vietnam

First cases recorded in the country. Four Vietnamese nationals hospitalized and quarantined.
Incoming Chinese tour groups suspended, returning workers from China being quarantined.
Vietnam has two confirmed cases but has not put into place any screening thus far. Vietnam has a Visa on Arrival policy with China.
24 additional people have been quarantined.

It looks like Cambodia is just hoping for the best. I can confirm trade in wild animals is still alive and kicking in the KoW.

I doubt that they will even know there are cases.
One tuktuk driver told me the hospitals charge people $400 for detection of the virus, hence no one takes the test.

“The Philippines has confirmed this morning the second coronavirus case in the country and, notably, the first death in the country and the first outside China”

So far cases have far surpassed SARS ( 8,098 people/ 774) but deaths are just under 40%
(14,551/304)
Deaths from the coronavirus outbreak have now reached 304 today. 14,551 people are now confirmed with the virus. An increasing number of countries are also imposing restriction on travel to and from China in efforts to reduce the global spread of the virus, officially described as 2019-nCoV coronavirus.
The fatality rate remains at 2% with the current level of cases

Information to travelers going to or transiting Singapore:

January 31, 2020 / 5:41 PM / 2 days ago
Singapore bans China travelers to keep out coronavirus
Aradhana Aravindan
2 Min Read

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Singapore said on Friday it was banning entry to all Chinese visitors and foreigners with a recent history of travel to China in some of the most far-reaching moves worldwide to deter the fast-spreading coronavirus.

The ban, effective from Saturday, will also apply to transiting passengers but will exempt residents and long-term pass holders such as those on work permits, student visas or long-term visit passes, the health ministry said.

The move to suspend visas to mainland Chinese passport holders effectively shuts out the island’s largest group of visitors and will also bar other travelers who have been to China in the last 14 days.

Interesting to note that three countries bordering China have so far been only lightly effected.
Vietnam 2
Cambodia 1
Lao 0

Some medical info about the virus:
The mortality rate has to be calculated including the 7 days incubation period. So if the infected are currenntly 10000 and the dead are 200 (2%) you should actually use the prior week infected numbers, this is a common error on the news, because of the incubation period.
So if last week the infected where 5000 and now the dead are 200 the mortality rate is actually 4%.

2)

The ICU treatment requirement is much higher than that of normal flu 20% vs 1%

With ICU the death rate should be below 5% without around 10%

The lack of ICU in Cambodia is a serious issue, I don't think there are even 1000 suitable ICU beds in PP.

3)

The idea to keep Chinese tourists for the economy in is wrong, as soon as a couple more cases gets found all tourists will stop, including Chinese.
Just look at Thailand.

4)
Only N95 masks or above help you protecting yourself, the cheap masks really just protect others.
