Death toll was 170 yesterday. It is 171 today.

Also this looks promising; it is beginning to flatten. Fingers crossed.

Yes, it's a little outdated. I was surprised by the sudden arrest of the death rate given the level of infection. Now it seems it has been rising consistently. So too the infection rate, up another 1000.

I don't trust any of the numbers from China, but assuming the numbers are correct there are some strange trends.

No fatalities outside of China. With 112 cases outside of China and an average reported fatality rate of 2,07% (so far) you'd expect one or two outside of China as well.

Recoveries show a strange pattern too, for instance:
Hubei province: 4,903 cases, 90 recovered (1,8%)
New South Wales: 4 cases, 2 recovered (50%)
Thailand: 14 cases, 5 recovered (35,7%)
Yunnan: 70 cases, 0 recovered (0%)
Shanghai: 112 cases, 5 recovered (4,5%)

5,6% of all the recovered patients did recover outside of China, while only 1,4% of the confirmed cases are outside of China. Recovery rate outside China is 7,14%, inside China it's just 1,66%. Partial explanation might be healthcare in Hubei is massively overrun, but other major cities with less infected people show really low numbers of recovered people too.

based on the official numbers 'As of Jan 30, 2020 11 am EST'.

Dubai is taking no chances-

Chinese passengers transiting are being instructed to wear their face masks. A typical irony of this whole facemask business is the number of folk wandering about with a mask dangling from 1 ear. Why bloody bother with the charade if you’re not going to wear it properly.
The Dubai authorities are quick to single these out.

I had a sneaky little sneeze earlier, and loudly announced that we’re all going into quarantine. 1 person smiled, not me.

Of all the cases resulting in death thus far, I gather that they are all Chinese patients who have expired in China. Or did I miss something?

I wonder if this is something that the Chinese are particularly vulnerable to, or does it say more about the Chinese medical services and how they treat patients?

Maybe only people born in the year of the rat are infected? :stir:
