Re: Tragic milestone as Covid-19 deaths eclipse 700,000 in U.S.
Well, there was no intent from me to 'rag' on the US as you put it. Nor did I want to sensationalise it. However, I do think it's a tragic milestone and a lot of the deaths could have been prevented.. and it's still counting. I mentioned the other statistics for the Spanish flu pandemic and previous wars so as provide some perspective. Maybe you're suggesting that people don't need that perspective. OK mea culpa if that is the case. To me at least it means a lot.sanjuro wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 10:07 pm Another Covid thread?
It sure doesn't feel like WW2, and more people saw friends get drafted to Vietnam than die "of Covid".
Does Big Media really need any more help scaring us into submission?
All for a disease with 99% survival.
Sweden & Denmark seem to be doing quite well in their approach to Covid compared to shocking behavior in Australia.
In Vietnam expats struggle to find food in the name of Covid Safety.
China has zero transparency, so let's rag on The Divided States.
Nope, nothing suspicious anywhere. Move along.
Nevertheless, and so as to not offend or annoy any members, I've merged this with the general covid topic.
Having said that, I do think the inference from your post suggests you're downplaying the severity of this outcome as in 'nothing to see here' and sweep it under the carpet. Carry on.

Ivermectin: How false science created a Covid 'miracle' drug
By Rachel Schraer & Jack Goodman
Ivermectin has been called a Covid "miracle" drug, championed by vaccine opponents, and recommended by health authorities in some countries. But the BBC can reveal there are serious errors in a number of key studies that the drug's promoters rely on.
For some years ivermectin has been a vital anti-parasitic medicine used to treat humans and animals.
But during the pandemic there has been a clamour from some proponents for using the drug for something else - to fight Covid and prevent deaths.
The health authorities in the US, UK and EU have found there is insufficient evidence for using the drug against Covid, but thousands of supporters, many of them anti-vaccine activists, have continued to vigorously campaign for its use.
Campaigners for the drug point to a number of scientific studies and often claim this evidence is being ignored or covered up. But a review by a group of independent scientists has cast serious doubt on that body of research.
The BBC can reveal that more than a third of 26 major trials of the drug for use on Covid have serious errors or signs of potential fraud. None of the rest show convincing evidence of ivermectin's effectiveness.
Dr Kyle Sheldrick, one of the group investigating the studies, said they had not found "a single clinical trial" claiming to show that ivermectin prevented Covid deaths that did not contain "either obvious signs of fabrication or errors so critical they invalidate the study".

There are two studies that have been released yesterday regarding the vaccines. One if from Israel and one from Qatar. Both appear to be well run studies and the results are not great.
Basically, the effectiveness of the vaccines to prevent infection reaches as high as mid 90's shortly after the second shot, but it decline rapidly to the point where months 5-7 it is at 20%.
The ability to prevent severe illness/death remains robust at over 90%.
I apologize for losing the link to the Israel study but I'm sure its not too tough to find the summary on the internet.
What these studies show is the fallacy of vaccine mandates as a way to stop the spread of the virus. I'm sure its not statistically valid - but from a layman's view of the data we'd need to be getting 3-4 shots a year if we are intending to defeat the virus via the existing vaccines. In fact I'd put forth we should stop calling them vaccine and call them the Covid-Flu shot.

Dr John Campbell pulls apart the BBC piece on Ivermectin. The lead author is a student at St George's Hospital and most of the points they make are unsupported by references! RIP integrity of the BBC.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 5:35 pm Ivermectin: How false science created a Covid 'miracle' drug

He has turned into a full-on Ivermectin spruiker. Credibility zero now IMO. He's probably also pulling in hundreds of thousands of dollars from his youtube account.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 1:03 pmDr John Campbell pulls apart the BBC piece on Ivermectin. You posted so quickly you did not have time to watch the video.
His point is - don't get polarised - just because anti-vaxxers promote Ivermectin, doesn't make it bad!
And if you putting yourself up as a better authority than JC, well paleeze!

Actually I'd stumbled upon that vid yesterday. I see he has been focusing more and more on Ivermectin and to this day there is still no valid double-blind, controlled, peer-reviewed trial which can validate it as either a prophylactic or treatment for Covid. It's pushed by hacks.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 1:25 pmMmm, you've kind of lost tne plot buddy.
