this thread is a gold mine for making the case that maybe the media don't tell the whole truth or that they even ignore a story because it would vindicate a certain well hated president.
There is a very good article about the lab leak theory and a comparison with the natural emergence theory. It is by Nicolas Wade, a science journalist with Nature and The New York Times

I am loathe to post this, not wishing to be labelled as one of the conspiracy theorists. But this was a very informative read, albeit a long one. Make of it what you will.

The article sets out in plain language, and then some excellent technical explanations, why the origin of Covid-19 is still unproved. However, only one theory still remains intact and the other is loosing credibility.

You will learn that the Wuhan Lab was working with a precursor of this virus in a BSL2 laboratory. You will find out that BSL2 lab means it is little more that the sterility of a U.S. dentist's surgery. You will also learn about gain-of-function experiments which is enhancing a virus' lethality (why do that you might ask?) and the what a Furin Cleavage is. The Furin cleavage is probably the biggest smoking gun that this virus was engineered rather than emerging naturally.

Covid-19 hit the public as almost the finished article, doing a lot of damage from the get-go. This is new. SARS1 and MERS all went through many mutations before it became the finished article (all well documented) and in both cases the intermediate host was identified quickly. It was after these 20 odd mutations did these two virus' became so dangerous. There is no such discovery of provenance with Covis-19. Indeed, it is only just beginning it's mutation phase from it's 1.0 version and each new one, Alpha, Beta and now the Delta variant (AKA the Indian variant) are all worse than the original. Where this ends up is anyone's guess.

Doubts about natural emergence. Natural emergence was the media’s preferred theory until around February 2021 and the visit by a World Health Organization (WHO) commission to China. The commission’s composition and access were heavily controlled by the Chinese authorities. Its members, who included the ubiquitous Daszak, kept asserting before, during, and after their visit that lab escape was extremely unlikely. But this was not quite the propaganda victory the Chinese authorities may have been hoping for. What became clear was that the Chinese had no evidence to offer the commission in support of the natural emergence theory.

This was surprising because both the SARS1 and MERS viruses had left copious traces in the environment.
The intermediary host species of SARS1 was identified within four months of the epidemic’s outbreak, and the host of MERS within nine months. Yet some 15 months after the SARS2 pandemic began, and after a presumably intensive search, Chinese researchers had failed to find either the original bat population, or the intermediate species to which SARS2 might have jumped, or any serological evidence that any Chinese population, including that of Wuhan, had ever been exposed to the virus prior to December 2019. Natural emergence remained a conjecture which, however plausible to begin with, had gained not a shred of supporting evidence in over a year.

And as long as that remains the case, it’s logical to pay serious attention to the alternative conjecture, that SARS2 escaped from a lab.

^^^ Further, this may sound like such an odd name but Lockdown TV's Freddie Sayers interviewed Nicolas Wade after his article. The host is a very very good interviewer, asking intelligent and good followup questions.

From the half-hour interview video:

Interestingly enough, Peter Daszak has a NY company that researches sources of viruses. He got money from the US NIH and he funnelled some money to the Wuhan Virology Institute. Even more interesting, Daszak was a member of the WHO China investigation team that strongly argued against a lab leak. It was discovered later Daszak was behind a letter from scientists to the Lancet editor supporting the natural emergence theory, whose authors declared no conflicts of interest. Hmmm . . .

Anyway, fascinating stuff. The Lockdown Tv interview link below:

I think there's conspiracies and conspiracies :beer3:

There's the one about:

'It's just the flu and the lockdowns and restrictions are designed by governments to control the people'

Whether covid came from a bat or the Wuhan lab, I don't know constitutes a conspiracy? If it's found to have come from the Wuhan lab then the next question is: what were they doing with it? If it was for nefarious purposes then it's a conspiracy I guess. Otherwise, not.

6,238 people test positive for Covid since yesterday
More than 6,000 people have tested positive for Covid-19 as of 9am on Friday, latest official figures show. This is the highest single-day figure since 25 March.

The government said a further 6,238 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus had been recorded in the UK.

A further 11 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported to 127,823.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 153,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

It is said, debating a subject on the side you are actually against is a powerful brain exercise to ward off memory loss, dementia, Alzheimer's, and I could probably come up with a few arguments "For", and I have always thought of the Japanese as cluey, but cramming 100M+ people into Tokyo to see how high and fast humans can go could undo some scientists' hard work and introduce more hybrids. IMO. Bring on the mice, early.
Current plan is no spectators at the Olympics. Athletes only.

It’s still very controversial. One major newspaper, the Asahi Shimbun, has called for the cancellation in it’s editorial page. And it’s an official Olympic partner.

Peter Daszak's name and fingerprints are all over this story. He is very high up in the virology profession and he was the first to call any suggestion of a Wuhan leak as a ridiculous conspiracy theory and nobody questioned him or knew of his very close connections with the W.I.V. The media just copied and pasted his pronouncements and everyone looked away. Other virologists knew better but they all kept quiet.

The biggest incumbent to any serious investigation of the W.I.V. was the fact the Donald Trump wanted it investigate it, and thereafter it was labelled a cuckoo theory and just anti Chinese. Now he is gone, all of a sudden, the US are now taking these claims much more seriously. In fairness, the Chinese investigation and WHO visit produced no evidence of natural emergence so this theory is now looking so less likely when you look at the alternative.

All the files and data from the W.I.V. are now sealed by the Chinese government. No surprise there. However, much of the early information is out there including a statement by Peter Daszak on December 9th 2019 (talk about bad timing, they obviously were not keeping him in the loop!)

On December 9, 2019, before the outbreak of the pandemic became generally known, Daszak gave an interview in which he talked in glowing terms of how researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology had been reprogramming the spike protein and generating chimeric coronaviruses capable of infecting humanized mice.

“And we have now found, you know, after 6 or 7 years of doing this, over 100 new SARS-related coronaviruses, very close to SARS,” Daszak says around minute 28 of the interview. “Some of them get into human cells in the lab, some of them can cause SARS disease in humanized mice models and are untreatable with therapeutic monoclonals and you can’t vaccinate against them with a vaccine. So, these are a clear and present danger….

It seems these people were creating Frankenstein's monster in a petri dish and it is highly plausible that it escaped from the WUHAN institute of Virology and started the pandemic in WUHAN. Or is that just an incredible coincidence?

If you don't think these things happen, this is from the article:

The safety arrangements at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Daszak was possibly unaware of, or perhaps he knew all too well, the long history of viruses escaping from even the best run laboratories. The smallpox virus escaped three times from labs in England in the 1960’s and 1970’s, causing 80 cases and 3 deaths. Dangerous viruses have leaked out of labs almost every year since. Coming to more recent times, the SARS1 virus has proved a true escape artist, leaking from laboratories in Singapore, Taiwan, and no less than four times from the Chinese National Institute of Virology in Beijing.

This is shaping up nicely. Having imported it, they are now finding out just how bad it is. 30% more transmissible (than the previous dominant variant - The Kent variant) is bad enough. 100% is going to be a disaster. Well done Boris.

I read somewhere in the Guardian (can't find it - sorry) that 75% of the new hospitalisations are unvaccinated people and about 22% having had one dose. The other 3% have two shots but for how long since the 2nd shot?

These numbers either mean it is finding the older people who refused a vaccine (screw them) or it is targeting young people, or a bit of both. Unfortunately, the story didn't give age breakdown. Whilst there are a lot of people double dosed, there is plenty of people who are not, and there is no shortage of potential victims.

By about the end of July we should be able to see just had much damage has been done all in the name of cosying up to Modi.

From the article I posted, there is no mention of any malice in the actions of the virologists. If it did come from the WIV it was an act of omission, not commission. Nobody serious is suggesting otherwise. These virus' are escape artists, SARS has got out 6 times, four of which from the Chinese National Institute of Virology in Beijing. So, they have a lot of form in this regard.

Another urgent question that is not being asked, and won't be until the lab-leak explanation is proved, is what else these boffins have been cooking up in their labs and how does the world stop these experiments that have a completely intolerable risk/reward ratio.

Right now, the thing to worry about is where SARS-CoV-2 is going to end up. SARS and MERS did their 15-20 mutations and ended up with mortality rates of 15 - 25% respectively. SARS-CoV-2 is just getting going; Alpha, Beta and now the Delta variant and each one appears to be worse than the last.

This is not a good direction of travel. And guess what? The boffins, who may or may not have created it, have NO IDEA where it is going to end up either.

Yeah, currently only athletes and staff. Still a lot. Can not venture out, even for a meal.
You can probably talk to the person next to you, quietly, but that’s it. No cheering. You can clap and high-five yourself. Only.
"And make sure you agree to the “compliance and sanctions” on page 32 or you can forget about taking your place on the blocks for your event.
Page 32! Sounds like the will be occupied during quarantine. The crammed Tokyo populous has just been introduced to C-19 wave4.
“If we prepare correctly,... I think we can minimise risk and enjoy the Olympics in a slightly different way than usual,” says Maki Kobayashi, an executive director. Kobayashi corrects herself. “I mean, quite a different way than usual.” She should have also corrected “I think” to “we are extremely confident”.
“In 2016, organisers ordered 450,000 condoms for Rio. Tokyo will only have 150,000 for those still bold enough...”
Basically, no displays of enjoyment unless you achieve the podium and, even then, with closed mouths. And legs.
Anyone who has been close to a positive case, will go into isolation. So, athletes could miss their event, even if negative. And there could potentially be a shitload if found in the village. Any positive cases from the Olympic athletes, automatically qualify for the Paralympics, starting on August 24. 8)
“The Australian Open… had 10 infections among the 1200 people…There are 10 times as many athletes coming to Tokyo, plus their entourage, and no automatic quarantine requirements on arrival.” Can't see a problem arising there. Said the blind man.
Australian Olympic Committee President John Coates: “if there was ever a question of putting the safety of athletes at risk, then we wouldn’t do it.” Hmmm. At that level, you need to cover your ass better than that. Any undue safety, for example, …at high risk.
I think it will be ok due to stringent controls and constant monitoring, because if it's not smooth sailing, it could join the ranks of collapsing bridge and stadium tragedies, and human stampedes. Because, in this case, the signs are there.

We don't stop laughing because we grow old. Other way round.

Uh oh, CNN, claims there may a link between Covid-19 vaccination and a cardiac illness (Myocarditis):

'Vaccine advisers to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say there has been a higher-than-expected number of cases of a heart ailment among young people, most often males, who've recently received their second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid-19 vaccines. The CDC says the reports of the ailment are "rare" and that "most patients who received care responded well to medicine and rest and quickly felt better."

The advisers' statement, posted June 1 on the CDC website, strikes a different note from their statement about two weeks earlier, which said that the rates of myocarditis -- inflammation of the heart muscle -- were not higher among vaccinated people than among unvaccinated people.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/06/09/heal ... index.html

CDC has a special page in their Covid-19 section called 'Possible Side Effects,' but they have no mention of this yet.
