How the Wuhan coronavirus compares to the world’s biggest killer diseases

South Africa is on high alert for any sign of the new Wuhan virus that has emerged from China, joining many other countries.
The South African Health Department said that the virus – called the Novel Coronoavirus or 2019-nCov – has not appeared up in South Africa, adding that measures are in place to screen travellers from source countries.

On 31 December 2019, WHO was alerted to several cases of pneumonia in Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China. The virus did not match any other known virus. This raised concern because when a virus is new, we do not know how it affects people.

Serious Question:
If one of your rural Cambodian loved ones were to come down with a cough, runny nose and/or fever, would you tell them to go to their local rural clinic, or stay home, drink plenty of water, and take some paracetamol?
What advice would you give?
If you advise them to stay home, what treatment would you advise?

Nothing to see here - please move along.

50 million in lockdown and the army deployed.

Increasingly drastic anti-disease efforts began with the January 22 suspension of plane, train and bus links to Wuhan, a city of 11 million people in central China where the virus was first detected last month. That lockdown has expanded to a total of 17 cities with more than 50 million people in the most far-reaching disease-control measures ever imposed.

This is just 'fear mongering' of course = expensive 'fear mongering' by the party that brought you Tienanmen banned on the Chinese 'free' internet.

The virus weakens at temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius, especially when it gets above 25 degrees Celsius with high humidity.

Wuhan its cold and wet.

Like the flu these viruses move quicker in Winter.

With Hot Season approaching in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam this will likely help slow any outbreak. Fingers crossed!!!!

Coughs and runny noses are very common this time of year. But fever is rare. If there was a fever I’d see a doc within hours. Without the fever I’d just sit it out with tea, honey and the other usual stuff.

Our body is hotter and wetter and it does great in there....

Most viruses like to travel in small droplets, so I can imagine the dry season being of help because small droplets don’t last long in the KoW.
