Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

No one is ignoring it except by willful ignorance.
If you prefer to dress it as a vast left wing conspiracy, enjoy yourself.
It might look like left wing conspiracy if it was only in the countries with left and right wings. But it is the same in one-wing countries. Everywhere media have been reporting as incompetent robots.
In the end, there is a positive side to this crisis. Many institutions are going to lose credibility when dust has settled and this will enable more independent thinking and self-reliance.

Jeez, I wouldn't have thought that that was an opinion that needed to be challenged..here it is again:
Without robust testing, states have no way of knowing the true scale of their outbreaks. And weeks-long wait times for results mean even quarantines and contact tracing happen too late.

“This is very bad,” Harvard epidemiologist Michael Mina told The Atlantic. “Our modelling efforts more or less show that if you don’t get results back in a day or so, outbreaks really can’t be stopped without isolating and quarantining all contacts preemptively.”
So the way I read it, all she is saying is that if the results take a week to come back (coz the labs cannot cope with the sheer volumes) rather than a day then, the efficacy of doing such a test is greatly reduced. Coz as stated above, in the meantime people may not isolate themselves and conduct contact tracing. Is there really another opinion on that??

Another quote from the article:
“If the labs were coming back five to six to seven days after the sample was taken – it doesn’t matter how good the contact tracing capacity is, it doesn’t matter how good and efficient they are at following up – the infections would have already spread to their coworkers and family members and roommates by then,” Will Humble, executive director of the Arizona Public Health Association, told the Republic. “Because very few people isolate between the time their sample is taken and they get their test results back.”
And another:
Rebecca Fischer an epidemiologist at Texas A&M, called the situation “disastrous,” since positive results often arrive too late for health authorities to effectively intervene. “Why have you been tested at all if it just goes into a number? That’s not the goal of this,” she told the Tribune.
The real goal of testing is to identify coronavirus patients as quickly as possible, isolate and treat them, and track down their contacts. But in the last couple weeks, Texas testing facilities and labs haven’t been able to keep up.

So I think the main point of the article https://www.businessinsider.com.au/anot ... -us-2020-7
is that testing and testing stats are rather pointless if you do not act on results quickly. That is, if the goal is to reduce the infection spread.

my daughter in northern ca was tested ( for free) on a Friday, had the results,( positive ) about 20 hours later.

3 weeks into her stay at home an recovering ok, seems from her description alot like Dengue except for the cough..
Joint aches, headache, fever, loss of taste and smell

and although when i had dengue i could barely move for 3 days or so, she was never bedridden for more than 12 hours

only thing Trump has gotten right is
the more you test, the more positive results will be shown..
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

A country of nearly 100 million people which shares a border with China (where the outbreak first occurred), Vietnam is currently a world leader in containing the virus and caring for those who’ve been infected.

At the time of writing (July 9, 2020), there were just 369 reported cases, 347 of which had recovered, zero deaths, and no community transmissions for nearly three months. In late January, when the virus broke in Vietnam, few observers would have predicted a record like this.

No search, no find. Little search, little find. Many search, many find.
Whoever believe they can eradicate this virus must have patience enough to last till Judgement day.

Texas governor announced in an interview on TV if there are Texans who continue to be irresponsible - aka not socially distance, continue to pack together, not wear a mask - despite his orders - he may be forced to shut the state down again.

Interesting choice of words.

First, it’s an individual responsibility.

Second, most Texans are responsible.

Third, some Texans are adamantly not responsible.

It’s causing the virus to spike and overwhelm the healthcare system.

He doesn’t relish going draconian, but might not have a choice.

Then I think of the discussions on CEO.
And the various positions members have.

They can keep the number of daily cases increasing for the next 5years if they want to. Just use the most sensitive test and then exaggerate the results.

Just because someone is a governor or whatever the position, doesn’t automagically mean they know what they are doing.

Yup, more test, more find. There is still a pool of a billion infected people to tap into. New labs come online all the time in many countries, this fight will keep going till the world is thrown back a few decades economically, a new form of “bombing them to cave age” for some poorer nations.
