Coronavirus tracked: Charting Sweden’s disastrous no-lockdown strategy
Sweden’s decision to shun strict Covid-19 containment measures may have kept businesses open, but at what cost?

Sweden has taken the ignominious title of the country with the world’s highest death rate from Covid-19.
The title, which was was briefly held by the UK late last month, comes after Swedish officials decided to ignore the lockdown advice of countless health experts and kept the country largely open during the pandemic.
The number of deaths per capita in Sweden is now more than four-times that of its Nordic neighbours.
And while its death toll of around 4,500 is a fraction of other badly affected countries like the US (105,000) and the UK (38,000), it is the death rate that reveals the true impact of Sweden’s no-lockdown approach.
The rolling seven-day average for new confirmed deaths per million people in Sweden is now nearly twice that of the US, and more than five-times that of France, which had the highest death rate in the world in April.
France imposed a strict lockdown, similar to those of Italy and Spain, in an attempt to contain severe outbreaks of the deadly virus.

Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...

This is so bogus. European countries have been looking to trash Sweden from the beginning. France Spain and the UK have a death per million well above Sweden despite trashing their economies to the tune of $1Trillion+ across the 3 countries. As soon as one of the many rolling day averages goes over the others they call Sweden a catastrophe. They have had 4403 deaths in total. At it's peak, the UK, France, Spain and Italy had that number on a daily basis, with the economy flat lining too.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 12:19 pm Coronavirus tracked: Charting Sweden’s disastrous no-lockdown strategy

Like it or not, all of Europe, and soon the rest of the world, is going down the road of the Swedish model. Managing as best we can, changing how we behave in public, while carrying on with our economically productive lives as best we can. There is no other way.
I would add this chart for your consideration. It is the UK, with Lockdown, Sweden with no lockdown, and also Japan with no lockdown either. You never hear them talking about Japan do you?

Re: Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
Unfortunately, there is evidence of renewed local transmission of the coronavirus in Hong Kong where there were previously no reported cases in the past two weeks.
New COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong raise concerns of local cluster
02 Jun 2020 02:37PM
HONG KONG: A cluster of nine coronavirus cases raised concerns in Hong Kong over renewed local transmission in a city that has been one of the most successful in keeping the pandemic under control.
The first two cases in the cluster - a husband and wife - were confirmed on Sunday. Since then four neighbours, two of the wife's work colleagues, and a fire department medical officer who had sent the woman to hospital have been confirmed to have been infected. None had been abroad recently.
"We are very concerned about this cluster of nine," Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam told her weekly news conference on Tuesday (Jun 2), before an executive council meeting.
The infected woman is a night-shift worker at a Kerry Logistics warehouse, where she labels food items imported from Britain, local media reported.

Re: Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion
There is still a long way to go. Nothing close to Covid-19 "herd immunity" has been reached in any country that has been tested so far.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/worl ... 39206.htmlExperts claim that at least 60 per cent of the population would need to have Covid-19 antibodies before herd immunity is reached.
The government had hoped for 20 per cent immunity by the end of May, but instead only 7.3 per cent have it.
This is lower than most countries that enforced lockdowns, including the UK and US, yet with still no lockdown in place, the full impact for Sweden may still a long way from being realised.

I read that many people don’t develop antibodies after having covid because antibodies are the second line of defense while their health is strong enough to kill the virus on the first line before it invades further into cells.
There will not be enough herd immunity in a few months by autumn when the second wave hits, but it will be much more difficult to scare hungry angry people to be locked again.

And this came in from one of Sweden's neighbours just over a week ago.
Headline: Norway 'could have controlled infection without lockdown': health chief
https://www.thelocal.no/20200522/norway ... alth-chiefThe head of the Norwegian Institute of Public Health believes Norway could have brought the coronavirus pandemic under control without a lockdown, and called for the country to avoid such far-reaching measures if hit by a second wave.
Camille Stoltenberg, the agency's Director General, told state broadcaster NRK that the agency's analysis now suggested less restrictive measures would have been sufficient.
"Our assessment now....is that we could possibly have achieved the same effects and avoided some of the unfortunate impacts by not locking down, but by instead keeping open but with infection control measures," she said.
