Those countries putting early measures in place were smart, but noting that fact isn't going to help the countries currently in big problems in any way.

Going into some form of a lock down is easy, getting out is extremely difficult. Only China seems to have managed, but to be honest I have no idea what really happened there and what's currently going on and I wonder if anyone except for China and some really well informed secret services do know.

The simple question is what's better, let the virus run it's course with many casualties in the short run and and a relatively short and strong economic disruption, or try to control the spread of the virus hoping an effective safe vaccine will become available and disrupt everything for many months, maybe years.

If a vaccine has been found, and it has been tested, it will take months, maybe years, to produce billions of it. Nobody mentions that. Maybe the vaccine will be a multi-shot one, like rabies or hepatitis, and tens of billions have to be produced. Creating a safe vaccine is only step one, producing at least 7 billion of them is another story.

I understand the short term panic, and thus the choice for lock down NOW, but unless politicians know stuff about this vaccine not available to the public (which I highly doubt) I believe the discussion about whether a lock down is the best option in the medium / long term is a valid one.

Yes this is so, but she is 80% confident, but it might not work. Could we say false news, or just hope it does work, or someone comes up with a vaccine soon. My neighbour says garlic and hot peppers keep it away.
