The 'Swedish experiment' may be coming to an end, with Swedish health experts calling for a lockdown in Stockholm to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Sweden prepares for possible tighter coronavirus measures as deaths rise
Country, which has taken soft approach, has death rate higher than Nordic neighbours’
Jon Henley Europe correspondent
Last modified on Sun 5 Apr 2020 21.00 BST

Sweden’s government is drawing up new legislation to allow it to take “extraordinary steps” to combat Covid-19, local media have reported, amid concern that its relatively soft approach may be leading to a higher death rate than in other Nordic countries.

Denmark and Norway are among the many countries to have imposed tough lockdowns, closing borders and shutting schools and non-essential stores, and Finland has isolated its main urban area around Helsinki. But Swedes are still able to shop, go to restaurants, get haircuts and send children under 16 to class.

On Sunday Sweden reported a total of 401 deaths so far from Covid-19, up 8% from Saturday and greater than the totals of its three Nordic neighbours combined. Sweden’s toll per million inhabitants is 37, compared with 28 in Denmark, 12 in Norway and 4.5 in Finland.

Churches hold Palm Sunday services despite state bans on gatherings
By Melissa Alonso, Deanna Hackney and Theresa Waldrop, CNN
Updated 2322 GMT (0722 HKT) April 5, 2020

(CNN)Several churches around the country held services Palm Sunday, some in defiance of state bans on gatherings aimed at stopping the deadly spread of coronavirus.
"We don't get our rights to worship freely from the government we get those from God," said the Rev. Tony Spell of Life Tabernacle Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. "We'd rather obey God than man."

Spell held another massive service at Life Tabernacle despite being charged multiple times last week for violating the state ban.

About 1,220 people attended, some bused in and others driving more than 100 miles to attend, Spell told CNN. Spell has previously told CNN he believes the pandemic is "politically motivated."

And this is why religion has been used for hundreds of years to control the masses. This guy could have televised the service live to his congregation but i do wonder if it would have affected his donations?

All in all though a pretty good display of control of people.

Eighty-one people on the Greg Mortimer cruise ship, which has been stranded off the coast of Uruguay for almost two weeks and has over 90 Australians on board, have tested positive for coronavirus.

In a statement on Monday the cruise ship owners, Australian company Aurora Expeditions, said two crew members and one passenger had been taken off the ship which had been on an Antarctic expedition.

Over 120 other passengers and staff were tested for COVID-19, with 81 passengers testing positive and 45 testing negative.

Another 90 test results are expected to be processed over the next 12 to 24 hours.

Malaysia identifies 2 new COVID-19 clusters resulting from mass gathering events

(Updated: 06 Apr 2020 07:59PM)
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has identified two COVID-19 clusters as a result of mass gathering events, health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah said at a press conference on Monday (Apr 6).

The clusters were from a church gathering at Kuching, Sarawak and a wedding held in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the church gathering had resulted in 83 people being tested positive for COVID-19, of whom two had died and five were in critical condition.

The wedding in Bandar Baru Bangi led to 88 positive COVID-19 cases with one person presently in critical condition.

He added that both events infected people across five generations.

He also outlined that the church gathering and the wedding were Malaysia's second and third biggest COVID-19 clusters respectively, behind the Sri Petaling mosque cluster which saw 1,624 positive cases in total so far.

Dr Noor Hisham added that those involved in the church and wedding have been tested and there have been no new infections from them recently.
"The clusters have been contained. We don't expect to see new cases for these clusters," said Dr Noor Hisham.

A Filipino man was shot dead for not wearing a face mask.

Man shot dead for flouting coronavirus rules in Philippines
‘Authorities think these regulations are more about showing their power and authority than saving lives,’ says Human Rights Watch

A man was shot dead by police in the Philippines for threatening local officials after refusing to follow the country’s coronavirus restrictions.

The 63-year-old man is believed to have been drunk when he attacked health officials and police manning a Covid-19 checkpoint in the southern town of Nasipit in Agusan del Norte province.

“The suspect was cautioned by a village health worker ... for not wearing a face mask,” a police report said on Sunday. “But the suspect got angry, uttering provoking words and eventually attacked the personnel using a scythe.”

The man was subsequently shot dead as the incident escalated, in what is the first reported case of police shooting a civilian for flouting rules on curbing the spread of coronavirus.

Thursday’s killing follows the warning made by Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte that police and military have the right to execute lockdown violators.

“My orders to the police and military ... if there is trouble and there’s an occasion that they fight back and your lives are in danger, shoot them dead … Instead of causing trouble, I will bury you,” he said last week.

To date, the Philippines has reported 3,246 cases and 152 deaths from coronavirus.
