Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

that was long before any bar closures
Well, do you agree that everything needs to be opened back up as soon as possible as it was before all this started? There is only yes or no answer.
NOT until the number of those infected reaches 000 for at least 5 straight days,
cant rush into opening things as then it will just start over.

My post was about all these stupid comparisons graphs showing number of deaths.

Countries need to lock down to contain the spread, than an ONLY than can things begin to get back to normal which is going to take awhile
HE ( an others) refusing accept to that this virus is real and its in Cambodia only worsens the outcome

....not about this scam of a virus anyway
:stir:
Yep scam
709,707 infected
37,829 deaths and climbing daily
just about every country in the world
I don’t say there is no virus.
I am saying mortality will be nothing compared to other diseases, common flu is the first that comes to mind. Is there a better word in english to describe what is happening other than scam, bullshit, hoax? Let me know.

Watch how it spread

Its hard to say if this has been blown up out of proportion or not until its over. I personally get sick easily and am prone to lingering lung aliments but still young and healthy enough that I would live it would just be rough on me. I do know people who it could kill though and are taking this rough. So I did some math (which could be wrong I am not perfect and don't have access to perfect data)

Flu vs COVID2019

Estimates using CDC data for 2017-2017 Flu Season

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2016-2017.html

327,000,000 Total Americans
29,000,000 Americans who came down with flu like illness 8.8%
500,000 hospitalizations from flu like illness 1.7%
38,000 deaths due to flu like illness
.1%

Covid2019 Current Estimates

164,406 illness
3,172 deaths 1.9%

Which is quite a bit higher if accurate. Its about 19x higher of a fatality rate. However with the lack of testing and people with mild cases who never seek medical it skews data. If we had a better help on that number help would probably lower that rate substantially though probably still not to or below seasonal flu levels.

Do note the CDC take a couple years to sort and finalize data which is why I used a report for the Flu season of 2016-2017 as that is what they have finished. So by that logic we may have a rough idea of better numbers about 3-4 years from now. 😅

Coronavirus: UK deaths rise to 2,352 amid rush to test medics
1 hour ago
A further 563 patients with coronavirus have died in the UK, taking the total number of deaths in hospitals to 2,352.

The Department of Health said 29,474 people have tested positive for the virus, up 4,324 since Tuesday.

It comes as No 10 confirmed more than 2,000 NHS frontline staff in England have been tested for coronavirus since the outbreak began.
Hundreds have been screened since the weekend in a push to get healthy self-isolating medics back to work.
Cabinet minister Michael Gove said a shortage of chemicals needed for the tests meant the NHS - which employs 1.2m in England - could not screen its staff for the virus.

Contrary to popular belief, the young are not immune to the effects of the coronavirus.

Coronavirus: 13-year-old boy dies, says London hospital trust
31 March 2020
A 13-year-old boy who tested positive for coronavirus has died, a London hospital trust has said.

Ismail Mohamed Abdulwahab, from Brixton in south London, died in King's College Hospital early on Monday. He is thought to be the youngest person to have died with the virus in the UK.

A spokesman for the trust said the boy's death had been referred to the coroner, but gave no further details.

As of 17:00 BST on Monday, the number of UK deaths was 1,789.

The latest figures saw a daily increase of 381 - the biggest rise so far.

Ismail's family said they were "beyond devastated" by his death, in a statement released by a family friend.

They said he had no apparent underlying health conditions and tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, a day after he was admitted to hospital.

BBC health correspondent Nick Triggle said it was rare for teenagers to become seriously ill after being infected with coronavirus.

"Just 0.3% of those who show symptoms require hospital care and 0.006% die - in other words, two out of every 30,000 infections among this age group will not survive," he said.
"But it does happen, as this distressing case shows."

"The stark differences in countries’ coronavirus death rates, explained
Italy’s case fatality rate is 10 times higher than Germany’s. Learning why could help save lives."
"A country’s response, so far, appears to have among the largest impact on the severity of an outbreak and the subsequent number of deaths, as demonstrated by South Korea’s apparent success (which was also achieved without broadly shuttering daily life)."
