Malaysia's reported coronavirus cases have almost doubled in two days, mainly due to a religious gathering of 16,000 people in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysia closes borders, shuts most businesses in lockdown
yesterday [16 March 2020]

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia’s leader announced on Monday a drastic two-week lockdown in the country to slow the spread of the new coronavirus following a sharp spike in the number of cases.

Prime Minister Muhyiddini Yassin said all religious institutions, schools, businesses and government offices will be shut from Wednesday until March 31. All mass gatherings will be banned and only essential services including supermarkets, banks, gas stations and pharmacies will be allowed to stay open.

He said Malaysians will not be allowed to travel overseas, and all foreign visitors will be banned. All Malaysians returning from overseas will have to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The country recorded 315 new cases of the virus in the past two days, causing its total to surge to 553, the highest number in Southeast Asia. Many of the new cases are linked to a recent 16,000-member religious gathering at a mosque in a Kuala Lumpur suburb that also sickened dozens from Brunei and Singapore.

Fears of a lockdown have prompted panic buying at many shops and supermarkets across the nation.

very interesting that I have found common ground in preventing the spread of this new Wuhan Chinese contagion...
It is best to follow the advice of Infectious Disease experts at this time.
Imagine if China had followed the Doctor at ground zero in November?
That guy is dead after he got careless with a patient who was asymptomatic....
There are a lot of expats...me included...who are over 60 and I feel very lucky to be living in a small gated apartment complex with only 7 units..
I think the heat here in Siem Reap is an advantage.
I was in the USA in January and the flu bug was hitting hard...in the midwest...closing schools and friends of mine and their kids had it.
The symptoms were body aches and fever....
But, not the lung issues that make this chinese one so dangerous.
The economy of the World is in real trouble.
The death toll numbers from China do not seem accurate.
I sure don't trust their propaganda.

news from the uk

fear mongering or...truth?

one will never know
The government ramped up measures against the coronavirus epidemic following new predictions that the UK could otherwise have seen 250,000 deaths.

A new document published by the COVID-19 team at London's Imperial College - which is advising the government on its coronavirus response - warns the current public health threat is the "most serious" from a respiratory virus since the Spanish Flu in 1918.

They advised the UK adopts a strategy of "epidemic suppression" - for a period of potentially 18 months or more - rather than "mitigation".

from Dubai Media Office:
"In Dubai, the world's tallest skyscraper shined tonight with the colours of the Italian flag with "We are with you", as a sign of solidarity and friendship with Italy in the common challenge to overcome #coronavirus."

The Robert Koch Institute said Tuesday that the coronavirus pandemic could last two years, as pandemics tend to run their course in waves.
RKI chief Wieler said it is possible in an "extreme situation" that some of the restrictions enacted by countries would have to stay in place for this duration.

There you go. Stop life for two years over a flu. Can’t get more crazy than this. Or can it?

So... Will the world collectively sue China for loss of life and income over all this?

Are you suggesting that because China was the first to detect this virus they're the source? :hattip:

No, it doesn't sound like he is suggesting anything. You must be confused.

What are you suggesting by assuming that he was suggesting? Hmmm...
