Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak - News and Discussion

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Seriously, I'm inclined to believe that coronavirus cases in Cambodia will only be officially reported, either 1/ when someone dies and they can't cover it up , or 2/ when there is a big outbreak that can't be covered up.
Whatever, be prepared for some "fresh news" from the authorities. It will be downplayed, and of course the Cambodian health system is ready in case of a pandemic. ;-)
Personally, unless you plan to leave the country, I don't see the point of panicking. We know the health system here is shite and should be prepared to take care of ourselves.
Heart failure would be the headline (even so not a lie). But that's why most countries say if you travel from Cambodia you must self isolate for 14 days.

Do you have a link to which countries say that ? I need to travel soon, and don't see how I will get to where I'm going from the airport without interaction with the general public at the other end. It's all very well to say "self-isolate", but unless you get put in quarantine at the airport, I don't see how you can travel and self-isolate at the same time.
How many western taxi drivers are going to take a passenger with a mask who says they are self-isolating because they have arrived from a suspect country ? So, IMO, most travellers will just carry on as usual, and say nothing, unless they are really sick. And some of them will be contagious without knowing.
The current advice is to stay indoors and avoid contact with other people immediately if you’ve travelled to the UK from:
Hubei province in China in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms
Iran, lockdown areas in northern Italy or special care zones in South Korea since February 19, even if you do not have symptoms
Other parts of mainland China or South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan or Thailand in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)
Other parts of northern Italy (anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini), Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar or Vietnam since February 19 and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)

Sorry.
That’s not a full link that leads anywhere, and isn’t an official source, so really it just amounts to heresay.

An official source to me would be in broad terms

government/medical departments, purely from a care point of view,
any government departments or official bodies that can affect travel or impose restrictions.
Airline information where an airline starts imposing its own precautions.

Well, reading the info from the UK site, I can see this has the potential to turn into a real mess for folk like me who work in Europe, and live over here.

For any interested, in Cambodia there is a process in place.

Telephone 115. Hotline for Corona virus.
Then there’s a message all in Khmer, but managed to get through to a person who spoke English. Takes a basic history.
If you meet the criteria, go along to the Soviet Friendship hospital and swabs are taken. Supposedly, 4-6 hours for the culture/test results. I gather, no charge.

If you don’t meet the criteria (as I don’t), but may need to head off a particularly vindictive HR department (as I might), you can go along and discuss with them directly.

I’ll let you know how that turns out.

"

In a sign of the scale of strain on Britain’s fabric, police have been told by planners to limit demands on the army – because the military may be filling in for firefighters or even helping to bury the dead.

I can't keep up with how many millions have died, but it looks like the hoopla is just about over.

Will be long forgotten by the end of this month.
