Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
I dunno whether BB's motive on here is to strictly troll (certainly seems more like it lately as members say) or he has a serious chip on his shoulder following his brief and bitter experience in the KOW (reportedly bad job/school, loss of job/ tenancy due to potential coronavirus infection) or a bit of both.
Whatever, it's clear the 'Cambodia is a shithole' opinion or similar disparaging comments has exhausted itself and is sounding like a broken record that we just don't need here on an expat forum.
So I suggest @BrazilBoy you refrain from continuing to make such posts or you'll have a holiday coming your way. Otherwise, any new or constructive posts are welcome. Thanks.

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
There are still many unknowns...
Coronavirus: Japanese woman tests positive for second time
Tour guide from Osaka had been given all-clear in early February but then developed a sore throat and chest pains
Reuters
Thu 27 Feb 2020 04.51 GMT
A woman working as a tour bus guide in Japan has tested positive for coronavirus for a second time, in what authorities say is the first such case.
The woman, in her 40s and a resident of Osaka in western Japan, tested positive on Wednesday after developing a sore throat and chest pains, the prefectural government said. She first tested positive on 29 January and was discharged from the hospital after recovering on 1 February, before testing negative on 6 February.
The health ministry confirmed the case was the first in Japan where a patient tested positive for coronavirus for a second time after being discharged from hospital, Japanese media said.
Though a first in Japan, cases of second positive tests have been reported in China. The outbreak has spread rapidly and widely, infecting about 80,000 people globally and killing nearly 2,800, the vast majority in mainland China.
“Once you have the infection, it could remain dormant and with minimal symptoms, and then you can get an exacerbation if it finds its way into the lungs,” said Professor Philip Tierno at New York University’s school of medicine.
He said much remained unknown about the virus: “I’m not certain that this is not bi-phasic, like anthrax,” he said, meaning the disease might appear to go away before recurring.
The woman’s second positive test came as the number of confirmed cases in Japan rose by 16 to 186, in addition to the 704 diagnosed from the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Tokyo has urged that big gatherings and sports events be scrapped or curtailed for two weeks to contain the virus, while pledging the 2020 Olympic Games will still go ahead.

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
Latest updates posted 30 minutes ago on The Guardian.
Here’s a quick summary of the latest developments:
China’s health authority has reported another drop in the number of new infections, with 433 new confirmed cases and 29 deaths in mainland China on Wednesday.
There are 334 new cases in South Korea, mostly in Daegu.
Estonia, Denmark, Pakistan, Georgia, Norway, North Macedonia, Greece and Romania are among countries to report their first case of coronavirus in the last day.
Stocks in Asia are headed for their worst week for two years after more heavy losses on Thursday
Australia has extended its travel ban on China and enacted its emergency response plan, because “there is every indication the world will soon enter the pandemic phase of the virus”, prime minister Scott Morrison said.
US vice-president Mike Pence has been appointed by Donald Trump to lead and coordinate the US’s response to the coronavirus.
Trump said the risk to Americans is “very low” but that plans are in place for a spread of the virus, which he doesn’t think is inevitable, in contradiction to US health authorities who expect to see more cases.
Anne Schuchat, deputy director of the US CDC, said “the trajectory of what we are looking at over the weeks and months ahead is very uncertain”, and authorities should “dust off” their pandemic preparedness plans.
UPDATE on figures,15 minutes ago from AP/Guardian:

"The Coronavirus Outbreak Is the Shape of Things to Come"
This is a short but interesting article that I came across. Not alarmist or fearmongering, just an sober analysis of what we are dealing with.
Worth a few minutes of your times to put this Covid-19 business into historical perspective. It has good news but bad news too...

So much for acquired immunity, or maybe it has mutated slightly. I did read somewhere that after you've beaten a virus that the body needs time to 'make' it's own vaccine to be ready for the next time it is exposed and if exposure happens before sufficient time has elapsed the body is still vulnerable.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 2:16 pm There are still many unknowns...

Re: Outbreak of Unidentified Coronavirus In China as New Year Approaches
Age, Sex, Existing Conditions of COVID-19 Cases and Deaths
the virus is highly contagious and quite dangerous, especially long-term if it becomes seasonal etc
but the deaths do seem highly concentrated to the very elderly
a cynic might argue that this accounts for the surprising strength of response from senior (sic, aged) governments wordwide
despite obvious economic damage
at least compared to that other fashionable threat, climate change
which will only really affect the young or unborn
and to which governments seem unwilling to make any economic concessions whatsoever
of course there are many other tin-hat arguments
ps
can we merge all these corona threads?
they're multiplying as fast as the virus
