Where I come from the word 'pasty' means 'pale complected and unhealthy', you know, just how 90% of all brits look after living under a semi-permanent drizzling, grey haze for most of the year.
I wouldn't say we name our food like that, it's just idiomatic, like how you probably say 'taters instead of potato like a civilised human being would
It's also pronounced 'pass-tee' not 'pay-stee' like a someone with a moontan.
And Cornish Pasties are fucking tasty, so suck it!
