Barack Obama's credit card 'declined'
President Obama said that they paid the bill using his wife's card
President Barack Obama's credit card was declined at a restaurant in New York City last month, he said.
"It turned out I guess I don't use it enough," Mr Obama said. "They thought there was some fraud going on."
Fortunately, he said, First Lady Michelle Obama had a credit card on hand and paid for the meal.
Mr Obama told the story at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau as he announced new protections for debit cards used to deliver federal benefits.
An estimated 100 million Americans have been affected by identity theft in the past year, including high-profile security breaches at retailers like Target and Home Depot.
"I was trying to explain to the waitress, you know, I really think that I've been paying my bills," Mr Obama said. "Even I'm affected by this."
The US president is paid $400,000 (£250,000) per year, as well as given a non-taxable $50,000 expense account.

Ain't gonna happen. China's the bank and they need the exports - bad. A successful parasite never kills it's host. Virtually everywhere in Europe has a higher debt/GDP % (except the Nordic countries, Holland and the Swiss). Japan is the country that needs to get it's credits cards cut up. He's just a regular guy like you and me except for using the CIA to hunt those on his kill list. Kill lists are for fun Obama, stop taking life so seriously.
Scarier than malaria.

Wow, that's product placement... 100 million people in the US were victims of identity theft?! That's one in three. Is that even possible or does it sound like a bit of a stretch?

Sounds high, maybe they're including fraudulent charges too, but it happened to me. My gym locker got robbed and 2 or 3 years later I got a letter from a suburban police detective in probably the richest little town in the Bay Area. Some guy had thousands of IDs & credit cards. 5 CCs & a DL were in my name. It took me 100s of hours & many years to get my credit right. Fraudulent charges happened to me all the time back in the States when I was purchasing a lot of shit on the internet. More often than not somebody trying to buy expensive bling in Russia. Chase and Amex are pretty good at catching that shit now. I get an email, my card gets shut down and I've got a new one w/new digits in a day or 2.

My cards got frozen by AFP because the local McD's EFTPOS was found to have skimmers in place. Fair call, but the units had clearly been tampered with again two weeks later. Great management.

That's a good explanation. Because 1 in 3 does sound high for what most people would call "identity theft."wackyjacky wrote:Sounds high, maybe they're including fraudulent charges too, but it happened to me.
I only had trouble like this once.
Went to the Dominican Republic or somewhere the Caribbean and when I got back a few weeks later I had a charge for roughly $500 on my bank credit card.
Called my bank. They were real snooty. Never ended up confirming anything, just asked a lot of questions about where I used my card overseas.
Pain in the ass, but got the money back and a new card.

ANZ (the real one, not the Bodgy version) has called me often to confirm purchases, fairly impressed with their level of security - got 24 hour live international support.
