UK News, Updates and Discussion
Re: UK News, Updates and Discussion
Yes, I do. But the computer and my phone were both second hand so none of my money went their way. As for new purchases I have a new rule. If it is only a want, it can't be Chinese. If it is a need it can only be Chinese if there is no alternative. I will prefer to buy something second hand than buy new and give money to those dogs.
And components can be made elsewhere and hopefully will be in huge numbers in the coming years.

Considering there is no cure to this virus, then slowing the rate is merely sowing the seeds for economic destruction.cptrelentless wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 3:06 pm
Isolation reduces the spread of the disease. The incubation period of the disease is about two weeks. The disease runs its course in about ten days. If you are asymptomatic doesn't mean you are not infectious, or even that you don't have the disease. The lower the infection rate, the easier it is to test and treat as there are a lower number of infected requiring medical services. I'm not sure which bit of this you are not understanding.

Boris Johnson has been admitted to hospital late last night. It's been described as a precaution. Watch this space...

Cures and vaccines will come - and economic destruction is going to happen anyway.
If the governments of the western world, who mostly work for BigBiz, are introducing these lockdowns and the "socialist" economic measures that make them possible,
you can be sure it is because they think that is the best way to go - for BigBiz style capitalism.
The public health experts and the Fortune 500's are in alignment on this.

"Coronavirus lockdown is costing Britain £2.4billion a DAY with young workers and women the worst hit... amid rumours of a Cabinet rift over when to end restrictions"
Britain's coronavirus lockdown is costing the economy £2.4billion a day, according to the Centre for Economics and Business Research
Report lays bare the 'extremely severe consequences' of social distancing rules
Manufacturing was suffering the most, with the inactivity costing the economy £500million a day, while hospitality is haemorrhaging £172million a day
It follows reports that the Government is split over the current lockdown policy
The costs of these actions are being counted and people in high places are moving to bring it to an end.
"Mervyn King, who was governor of the Bank of England during the financial crisis, has warned a prolonged lockdown is unrealistic.
'The government needs an exit strategy, which may be gradual and initially involve those who have had the virus and are able to travel and go back to work,' he said last week.
'If we have a lockdown for too long there will be a rebellion against it.'"

I know I'm standing alone and pissing into the wind, but sometimes you just have to make a stand.pczz wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 10:01 pmSo you gonna check if the bargirl is half chinese I do sympathise. I need a new slimline dishwasher for a rental apartment:
Miele - all German made, the best - £700;
Bosch - German but made in USA so ok - £400;
Electrolux - Swedish firm and Italian made - £350;
Chinese crap from Curry's - £190.
Sometimes making a stand is expensive.

Coronavirus deaths in England increase by 403 to 4,897
The number of people who have died from coronavirus in the England has increased by 403 to 4,897.
The UK figure will be available later.
It is the second day in a row that the rise is lower than the day before. Last weekend there was also a dip in the rise in recorded deaths which was attributed to a lack of officials available over the weekend to verify the latest numbers.
The NHS said the patients were aged between 35 and 106 years old. 15 of the 403 patients (aged between 52 and 94 years old) had no known underlying health condition.
It gave this:
East of England 44
London 129
Midlands 75
North East & Yorkshire 67
North West 43
South East 18
South West 27
Total 403

And to make it worse (for you), Bosch are built in North Carolina, a Trump supporting state.pczz wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 8:18 pmDilemmaDoc67 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 2:09 pm

Miele is good for home, not tenants. Curry's is China so that's a big no no. I think Electrolux or Bosch, and for the little bit extra, I'll go for the Bosch. They are good tenant's and been there for years. They'll appreciate the gesture.
