I'm keeping a close eye on Sweden. If they weather the storm without a full scale lockdown then other countries will follow suit quickly.

I am hearing more people on the radio arguing against this economic death policy. Phrases like, "it's a trade off between harming the old versus harming the young". Being in the middle I am all for the young and getting away from this economic suicide pact.

"PM's virus adviser warns Britain might still need to adopt herd immunity in its fight against coronavirus as lockdown measures have 'painted the country into a corner' - after UK death toll soars past China's to 3,605 with more than 38,000 cases"

* Professor Graham Medley says lockdown does not have an obvious exit strategy but would cripple economy

* Mounting unemployment, domestic violence and burgeoning mental health issues could be widespread

* Prof Medley, the chief pandemic modeller for the government, said PM has a 'big decision' to make on April 13

* But Health Secretary Matt Hancock said now is not time to relax discipline and begged people to stay indoors

"Describing a trade-off between harming the lives of the young versus safeguarding the wellbeing of the elderly, the scientist said the Prime Minister had a 'big decision' to make on April 13 when the lockdown will be reviewed."

"Forget 'recession': this is a depression "

By:

• David Blanchflower professor of economics at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire
• David Bell professor of economics at Stirling University

The numbers so far and the forecasts are terrifying. And it is all self inflicted. This is crazy.

"We estimate that unemployment will rise by around 5 million workers from 1.34 million to over 6 million by the end of May, and it may well be much worse. That will take the unemployment rate to around 21% – more than five times its current rate of 3.9% – and quickly. Some of these workers will be temporarily furloughed and may return to work if and when there is a recovery, but this will only happen if their companies are solvent and have a market to sell into. This becomes a tougher call the longer the lockdown persists"

Just have to love the way people are still using China’s official figures when they post stuff. Like they believe the CCP line on numbers of infected and deaths!

Five London bus workers who tested positive for Covid-19 have now died, the Unite union said.

The Unite regional secretary, Peter Kavanagh, said:

Each of these deaths is a terrible tragedy and the thoughts of everyone at Unite go to the families of the bus workers who have died of coronavirus.

Unite will assist the families of our members in every possible way during this terrible time.

Unite has been working continuously with Transport for London (TfL) and the operators to ensure the safety of drivers and others in the industry who are performing a heroic job in getting NHS and care workers to their places of work.

That's a very high number for one specific job category and just in London. I wonder how many have been infected. It needs to be 500 for a 1% mortality rate.

Ok, but what about people who've never had it - I guess they can be let out as well?

Did have a chuckle reading about dilberts in the UK burning down 5G Telephone masts due to an online "rumour" that they were somehow linked to Coronavirus :please:

Worthy of a chuckle. However, a tenuous link is that there is significant investment by China in the UK 5G network. If they’d have done this in protest, they might have been seen as patriotic rather than latent Darwin awards recipients.
