New Zealand mosques: Several dead after shootings in Christchurch

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

My condolences for those who suffered from this horrific act...

Sometimes i think we're trying to devolve in society because we're unwilling to deal with the tough things... What's life without challenges... Suck up it, enjoy they ride, and love every minute out there.

Dudes just out of wack...

It never ceases to amaze me how guns are always blamed for these atrocities.

It is never the gun, it is the person using it.

I can think of dozens of ways of killing masses of people without having to obtain a gun; some of these requiring no knowledge of chemicals or anything complicated. It would be the easiest thing in the world to create mass hysteria and kill hundreds of people without ever pulling a trigger. Luckily most of these terrorists are too stupid to work it out.

It's not the gun........

‘We stand in solidarity with New Zealand at this tragic moment’
18 March 2019 | 09:46 ICT
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed shock and sadness at news of the fatal shootings at Al Noor and Linwood mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday.

“We express our most profound sympathy and condolences to the victims and their beloved ones,” the statement read.

“We stand in solidarity with the government and people of New Zealand at this tragic moment to give utmost assurance for [the] safety of innocent people, both New Zealanders and members of the Cambodian community across New Zealand.”

The ministry also expressed its commitment to fight terrorism “in all its forms and manifestations”.

As of Sunday, the death toll for the attacks had risen to 50, including several children, in what New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described as the country’s “darkest day”.

Just saw a press conference from New Zealand,
PM, announced that there would be an Immediate ban on all sales of auto, semi auto an assault rifles,
PLUS a ban would be made on all parts that are sold to make rifles hold higher capacity magazines and a buy back plan on all such rifles.

6 DAYS AFTER the killings

American cant get its shit together for decades!!!
fuck the NRA and the gun Lobbies!!
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Food for thought ?
Interview with Jacinda Arden, NZ PM, and human being. Worth reading.
“Humanity. That’s it. Simple,” she says, nodding her head. “People have remarked upon the way we’ve responded, but to me there was no question. You need to remove some of the politics sometimes and just think about humanity. That’s all.”

I guess the same could be said of nuclear or chemical weapons... it's not the atom bomb or sarin gas it's the one that uses them that we need to be afraid of. That said it would have been much more difficult for this crazed gunman to have flown an airplane into two separate mosques or stab fifty people to death. For the life of me, I can not understand why any civilized country allows the sale of automatic military grade firearms.

I always think about "the right to bear arms".

Not an issue in the days that was written. They did not have automatic muskets in those days. Mind you, any gun control would have to include the gun happy police.

I enjoy shooting guns and rifles but at a shooting range, not into mosques.

Christchurch attack: Brenton Tarrant pleads not guilty to all charges
9 hours ago
Brenton Tarrant is charged with the murder of 51 people, 40 counts of attempted murder and one terrorism charge in New Zealand's deadliest peace time mass shooting.

Appearing via video link from prison, the 28-year-old Australian sat silently as his lawyer read out his plea.

The 15 March attack saw a gunman open fire on Muslims during Friday prayers.

This is the first time a terrorism charge has been brought in New Zealand.

As lawyer Shane Tait read out his client's not guilty pleas, a number of those present gasped and became tearful.

High Court Justice Cameron Mander said the trial had been set for 4 May next year, and that Mr Tarrant would be remanded in custody until a case review hearing on 16 August.

At his last court appearance in April, he was ordered to undergo mental health assessments to determine whether he was fit to stand trial.

Judge Mander said in a statement on Friday: "No issue arises regarding the defendant's fitness to plead, to instruct counsel, and to stand his trial. A fitness hearing is not required."

The plan is to introduce tougher gun laws. They are getting the minds of the people ready for tougher gun laws.

It seems like a sensible move. Hunting rifles and shotguns are needed by farmers but there is no need for semi-automatic rifles. It's worth noting that NZ is one of the most peaceful countries in the world and an Australian committed this massacre.

Not sure how accurate this report is, but it reckons New Zealand is the 2nd most peaceful country in the world, after Iceland. Ireland is at 12, the UK comes in at 57 in between Laos and Panama. Cambodia doesn't do too bad, it's at 89 while Thailand is at 116 and Myanmar is at 125 - Vietnam is at 57 and Timor L'est is at 46. Singapore is at 7. The USA is at 128 n between Saudi Arabia and South Africa!
