Interested in Ruby's and Myanamar

Interested in Ruby's and Myanamar

Post by phuketrichard »

This is a really interesting video, abut the mines in Mong Hsu :thumb: :thumb:

The mines remind me of when i did mining and sorting up in Bo Rai, but the scale in Myanmar is 10x what i was doing

Mogok still produces the finest rough ruby's

I
n the early 1990’s, a major discovery of ruby was made in Burma’s Shan State, at Mong Hsu (pronounced ‘Maing Shu’ by the Shan; ‘Mong Shu’ by the Burmese), northeast of the provincial capital of Taunggyi. So important were these discoveries that – within just a few years – Mong Hsu rubies constituted over 95% of the faceted ruby entering world markets. This remains true to this day.

But Mong Hsu is not Mogok. Before heat treatment, the Mong Hsu ruby is almost always an ugly duckling.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

There is a reason imported ruby's from Myanmar are banned in many countries including the USA.
But well done for helping to finance the corrupt Government.

Why is there a reason, and what? The same goes for arms sales.
Talking of corruption and the likes.................Where are you living?

What does where I live got to do with anything?
I am not waxing lyrical about gem mining or telling everyone what a great place I live in am I?

Get a grip man.

That simple, huh? What about human resources? Ecological devastation? The corruption you mentioned? Organ harvesting? Cultural decimation of minorities? The list goes on and on and on... It's not about what you trade, it's about how you do it, and the only reason China gets away with it is because it's so economically powerful and too many people are making money off of them. Myanmar on the other hand is no worse than China, but is the scapegoat for so-called human rights defenders to point their fingers at and pat themselves on the back for caring.

You fail to grasp the fact that I was simply stating that gems from Myanmar are banned in response to a thread started by someone who gained financially from them and if not then he was starting a thread about it as if it was some amazing industry. I do not care what they are other people do or do not do to their subjects.

If someone starts a thread about Bitcoins you don't say "Yeah, but what about slave labour in India!".

I don't understand your grammar! But my point wasn't to divert the topic but to illustrate the fallacy in your political comment. There's nothing wrong with having a comparative argument.
