Re: Humans have over run the world
Back on topic..
1. are there too many humans on this earth to sustain this planet?
2. is there room for more humans without destroying it further?
3. do humans need to colonise other planets for the future survival of the human race?

Population growth rates are already topping out, we'll max out in fifty years and it'll stabilise. As long as we keep enough fresh water, otherwise that'll solve overpopulation pretty quickly.

Re: Humans have over run the world
The planet is not coping now.
It is not just the population increase, it is the rise in living standards creating a much higher rate of consumption, and of pollution, and of human footprint. Much higher than the actual increase in numbers.
And yeah, the water issue. Countries are already running out and jostling about it. Serious issues will come to the surface very soon.
eg - the destruction of cambodias most productive ecosystem, because china laos and thailand are hijacking the water already.
and ps, the oceans are already fucked.
Not to mention global heating.
Sorry sceptics, flat earthers, Genesis people, 4078 days ago nutters - Science is my god, and that is unequivocal.
If you defy 98% of the scientists on earth, and claim they are all wrong, you got no hope of surviving the future.
(And i don't intend to argue with you about it. Claim you know better all you want)
A "correction" has to come.
It is unstainable now, unless we all change our ways, and that is not going to happen. Not enough.
Call me glum - that is what i see.
'Happy for someone to help me believe otherwise...

Re: Humans have over run the world
Terraforming. Transforming an lifeless planet into one with oxygen, water, capable of sustaining mankind is the best bet. Requires a huge amount of political will, capital, and 20-100 years to make it happen.
Humanity’s best bet. Any other distant planet capable of supporting humans is most likely inhabited.
That and warp bubbles powered by space rings for interstellar travel. High level math and physics, enormous energy requirements.

Before we could even begin, the environmental impact studies would take 500 years to complete.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 1:48 am Terraforming. Re: Humans have over run the world
As Clemen pointed out earlier aliens left that technology on Mars..however, they were conspicuously absent for the event... So, they left it there as a gift to humanity knowing that one day we would need it to expand and multiply. Maybe divine intervention like that will save us.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sun Jan 19, 2020 1:48 am Terraforming. Re: Humans have over run the world
hmmm over population.
There have been many failed predictions by "experts". For example, an esteemed prof at Stanford University, Paul Ehrlich, and his book "The Population Bomb"
https://www.smithsonianmag.com/innovati ... 180967499/
And then there's the 1970s prediction by the Club of Rome.
.... massive shortages of natural resources due to over consumption and overpopulation, with disastrous effects on human health and material well-being.
And lets not forget the dystopian future predicted for us back in 1968 in the book "Do androids Dream of Electric Sheep."
This book was set in 1992 and then the movie "Bladerunner" moved that date to 2019 for the screen adaptation. Either way.... slightly off in the whole humanity is doomed scenario.
If you want to predict the future not even a time machine will help you as (according to some theories) there are an infinite number of possibilities so which future you go to is determined by the present and can be changed during the time and that passes between the original present and the future time you visit.
I will have more confidence in expert predictions when they are able to successfully predict exactly what the weather will be like in 1 weeks time.
