How the news changes the way we think and behave
How the news changes the way we think and behave
"The latest research suggests that the news can shape us in surprising ways – from our perception of risk to the content of our dreams, to our chances of having a heart attack."
"It turns out that news coverage is far more than a benign source of facts. From our attitudes to immigrants to the content of our dreams, it can sneak into our subconscious and meddle with our lives in surprising ways. It can lead us to miscalculate certain risks, shape our views of foreign countries, and possibly influence the health of entire economies. It can increase our risk of developing post-traumatic stress, anxiety and depression. Now there’s emerging evidence that the emotional fallout of news coverage can even affect our physical health – increasing our chances of having a heart attack or developing health problems years later."

best to avoid BBC news if you don't want to fall into the 'mind control' trap
Re: How the news changes the way we think and behave
An interesting concept. I have obviously noticed that the news is 100% covid-19 and it is all bad news. It is easy to get depressed especially if you have been keeping a keen eye on the costs of all this and the inescapable fact that this bug is not being eradicated in the UK and the deaths are not going to stop. At some point we are going to have to stop running and hiding and face up to some unpleasant facts.
Wait until the government tries to tell that to all the scared people. The new government mantra could be:
Take Your Dresses Off...………Grow a Pair...……….Go Back to Work
They made them scared which was easy. Much harder is it to instil the required courage to face up to their demons.

Richard Nixon said "The American People Don’t Believe Anything Until They See It On Television".
Re: How the news changes the way we think and behave
"In one study, when scientists presented participants with news stories containing equivalent, but differently phrased, statements about political instability or terrorist incidents, they were able to manipulate their perception of how risky that country seemed. For example, saying a terrorist attack was caused by “al-Qaeda and associated radical Islamic groups” was considerably more concerning than saying “Domestic rebel separatist group” – though both have the same meaning."
"So the next time you find yourself checking the headlines for the hundredth time that day, or anxiously scrolling through your social media feed, just remember: the news might be influencing you more than you bargained for."

Goebbels
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

The welfare of humanity is the alibi of every tyrant. Albert Camus
Re: How the news changes the way we think and behave
I wouldn't trust brzezinski with anything
from the realist school of thought in international relations (aka screw morality and ethics, take the money and run school of thought)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbigniew_Brzezinski
http://johnhelmer.net/zbigniew-brzezins ... -lives-on/
'To Brzezinski also goes the credit for projecting Iran on to its nuclear-armed path against the Great Satan and US allies in the Middle East, making the sunni-shia sectarian division into a cause of international war which it was not, before Brzezinski began'
