How the Chinese think: Chinese patriotism

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Lol, that's going to be a tall order there, Ira.

I appreciate that you're trying to have a vigorous discussion on a delicate topic without upsetting any millennial snowflakes but in this day and age......it just can't happen.

Can't we just call a spade a spade without all this pussyfooting?

A lot of martial arts evolved into "show" of sorts. However, I'm sure in the last they were used effectively as conditioning tools. Plus, learning to kick or punch is always good. That being said, a karate kata, bokator display and so on are just for show. Most fighting sports are just that: sports. You can be a good boxer or jiujitsu practitioner and still get your ass kicked in a street fight. Fighting evolved into sports over time.
my post is about Chinese Martial Arts, Karate is Japanese and effective (to some extent), Juijitsu is Japanese and very effective, Bokator evolved into Kun Khmer and Muay Thai which is very effective, you only need to watch MMA, which over the past 2 decades has shown which martial arts are most effective and which ones are only for show

Is that what happened eventually in that awful Batman Vs Superman movie? Not even marijuana could save that piece of shit

Wait what?
The whole point of my post was that the discussion should focus on comparing China to the rest of the world/other countries
IraHayes wrote:I would like to discuss the Chinese mind-set and while this can only be done by comparing it to other cultures and mind-sets please try to hold back rants about individual countries while not making specific comparisons to China.
Thats from my OP. Unless it wasn't clear I was actually expecting rants about certain countries by posters with no valid points of comparison with China at all.... just the usual I hate <country> because ..... <insert shit here>
And, while I guess rants would be expected I at least wanted posters to validate those rants with reasons and comparisons to how China is better/worse/same.

Note 1: Didn't see the MMA thing getting so much traction though... I only used it to highlight the way someone who knew little about how China operates brought the subject into his story about the MMA fighter.
Note 2: fat fingers and auto-correct on 1 or 2 words clearly made my OP unreadable to some.. Sorry about that. Your reply to my OP was so eloquent and concise I would do well to study your other posts since there is so much I could learn from you.

the thing with Chinese martial arts, is they look good and effective against someone else practicing that same martial art, but put that Chinese martial art up against another martial art, and 9/10 it will embarrassingly fail, if it wasnt for all the Chinese/Hong Kong movies most people would find Chinese Martial Arts a theatrical joke

i mean look at Tai Chi... for example...

MMA is a game with rules that determine which form will be the winner and the loser. No one breaks bones, loses an eye, or dies, in order to win.

The most effective fighting techniques were the European martial arts. Practiced by millions, and only concerned with how to best kill or cripple opponents. There was no moral philosophy or spiritual goal to be a better person. When reliable firearms appeared, they all went extinct. The bullet is the most amoral thing in the world.

The Eastern martial arts existed because of the moral and spiritual component. But it was used by thousands in Hong Kong to protect themselves in the 1950s when guns and lesser weapons were banned by the British. Forms like Tai Chi are still practice by the elderly for health and flexibility.

As for the difference between Western vs Chinese philosophy. Western enlightenment tries to improve (for better or worse), the world and it’s people. Chinese believe in the order of things. The Middle Earth is the conduit between heaven and earth and it’s people are the chosen.

That’s why war is coming.

Huh? Where did this nonsense comment come from? Some of you grumpy old trumpers have your panties in such a bunch; You must just walk around thinking about millennals all the time. Talk about a snowflake...

Sorry the world is changing. But when you're the one going on about it constantly and blaming Everything on millennials, I think you might need to grow a thicker skin.
Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...
