Honk Kong protests

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Honk Kong protests

Post by Soi Dog »

Kudos to the brave, idealistic young people in Hong Kong protesting the gradual and unstoppable dismantling of their democracy by the yellow peril from Beijing. Those protesting are practically guaranteed of ruining their own futures in the process. The Communist Party never forgets. Just like the Tiananmen Square protest in 1989, these protests will be eventually broken up violently and without mercy. The more high-profile arrestees will get disappeared.

How long until they move militarily on Taiwan? They know the rest of the world will do nothing to stop them.

It looks like maybe the first violent crack down on protesters might come tonight.

I think a while now... the best thing for the rest of the world regarding China was getting them gung ho on having a big dose of capitalism with their communism. The risk of economic instability that would/will come from military action like that holds them at bay.

It would be a major tension point with the US, and could easily lead to economic sanctions... something that could make China collapse economically and start looking more like N. Korea. Nasty stuff... and they know it.

Ehhh nothing new. Let me know when the RPGs come in on the protesters side.

Its highly likely the U.S is behind this one also. What school and program did these protesters come from? Hmmmm...

People have an inherent desire for self-determination. No one needs the US to stoke that desire. God bless the protesters. This isn't the aimless "Occupy Wall street" movement...this is mainland communist China they are confronting, and eventually, the protesters will be violently crushed just like in Tiananmen Square and Tibet. The Chinese government does not fear US sanctions near as much as you think. They have positioned themselves well, economically.

China could give 2 shits about China.

The U.S. Is far more scared of China than China is of the U.S.

Fear China for what? There economy is just as in bad shape. Propped up do to construction..similar to Australias mining boom which is coming to an end.

No such thing as a grassroots movement. Hate to crush your dreams. 8)

Giving way to much credit to a group of people who was inebriated for 2 centuries straight on Opium.

The next predictable step is for the Chinese government to send a wave of instigators pretending to be protesters to cause trouble amid the gathering. As those instigators gradually increase their level of violence and destruction, the regime then has their official reason for cracking skulls and violently breaking up the protest and arresting and charging the movement leaders. The Cambodian strongman has perfected this technique in dealing with his opponents.
