US Homelessness Reaches All-Time High

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Random Dude wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2023 2:24 am I went down a YouTube rabbit hole a while ago, watching people with tough lives talk about their lives.

One takeaway from it was that it's not hard to become homeless, sometimes just one piece of bad luck can do it, but once you are homeless it can be really hard to climb back out of the hole.

You lose your job for some reason, car gets repossessed because you can't keep up the payments, now it's that much harder to get a new job because you don't have transport, your mental health goes to shit because of all this, before you know it you can't pay the rent and you're out on the streets. You might lose most of your possessions because you now have nowhere to keep them.

Before you know it you're filthy, you smell bad, and your mental health situation is dire. If getting a job was challenging before, it's even harder now. All you need is a chance to get your shit together and get back on your feet but the hits keep on coming and the hole gets deeper.

A few months ago you never thought this could happen to you. Hearing some of those stories, it's easy to think the system is designed to wreck people's lives, it certainly isn't open to helping people get back on their feet after a setback.
I am in the club ... formerly homeless veteran ... guess I made it out by pure luck and the grace of god.
Give it a rest.
Just tryin' to stay positive man ...
Although sometimes entertaining, I personally don't believe the majority of what you write. Your constant need for attention has become nauseating.
Full House!! 5 & 2 Any advances on that?

Let’s sum it up:
- formerly homeless
- 30 years ago could drive a golf ball 350 yards
- died 3 times
- had a snake in his eye
- expert in battlefield medicine
- boycotting Japan
- loves Ganzberg (this is most unbelievable)
- doesn’t wear underwear, hilariously indecently exposed himself in Vietnam
- his wife is on her period.

What have I missed?

Right off the top of my head without looking:

- He was stationed in Hawaii while they were still bombing the island, even though they had stopped years before he was there.
- Did a tour in Washington, D.C. working with heavyweights in Congress
- Boycotting Silicon Valley
- Fixed a piece of equipment that no one else could and became a hero

I'm pretty sure there is more

Reads 2000 year old medical books for fun
Huang Di Nei Jing ... written by China's first Emperor ... prolly the best medical journal even ... big book, long book ... but damn good ... ancient wisdom of one of China's great men ... translated in nearly every language ...

Not even close ... I'm busier than a one-legged man in an ass-kickin' contest ... trying to get everything done for the big day in Sunday ... less than a week until the butterfly wings are officially retired. My wife went out on lunch break to buy my shoes ... some cultural thing about having to be a certain style/color ... black ... "only black," she said ... so I just had her measure my ugly dogs and buy my shoes herself ... solved.

Tomorrow is Operation Tuxedo .., going with the same style featured on Dumb & Dumber movie with Jim Carey ... her dress is blue, so gonna match ... another Khmer thing she said was important ... gotta match color ... I had pitched Jim Carey's orange tux, but she balked and blue it is. Sighhhh. I'm knackered.

And PS: The eagle has landed ... customs gave me a break on my Bubble Burner ... to my pleasant surprise. No import fees. Got a bunch of Sport Tees too (my brother used them as packing, what a guy) ... Niners, A's, Warriors and Giants ... Bonus score. Was walking down around Riverside and a disheveled guy stopped me to comment on my new Niners T (they just clinched the NFC west).

We sat down and had a good chatteroo about how nuts things are in the Bay Area, and in the Christmas spirit, I opened the box and gave one of my Golden State Ts to this Khmer-American dude from San Joes who said he had just got out of San Quentin and was trying to get his act together in PP. Merry Christmas guy!

@Fridaywithmateo not saying you're wrong but didn't you say that you had no idea of how the marriage process in Cambodia works? That was about the 09DEC and PSD Kiwi (backed up by Doc67 who has gone through the process) outlined a long list of must see/talk to/complete documents/medical checks etc in reference to the various government departments which looked to be a lengthy period of time however you're now saying the wedding is a few days away? Are you sure it's not just an official engagement party?
Good luck either way.
