Re: Greta Thunberg's climate change speech
If any of you took the time to read the link frank lee bent posted you would have noted " But who’s the real freak – the activist whose determination has single-handedly started a powerful global movement for change, or the middle-aged man taunting a child with Asperger syndrome from behind the safety of their computer screens?"
Now that is a little awkward for us "middle-aged" isn't it?
Asperger syndrome (AS), also known as Asperger's, is a developmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests. A lack of demonstrated empathy affects aspects of communal living for persons with Asperger syndrome. Symptoms include impaired nonverbal behaviours in areas such as eye contact, facial expression, posture, and gesture.
I think if forum members can have empathy for grown men that are alcoholics or drug users, then criticizing a child with a mental disability is a bit hypocritical, don't you? It's not like she made a conscious choice to have this mental flaw and it is not as if she knew the consequences and ordered another.

Did you ever meet somebody with autism before? She has admitted to her diagnosis numerous times in public.
She’s a kid with a disorder and the disorder is probably the main driving force of her activism. She’s clearly dealing with a lot of anxiety and anger from fear of an uncertain future.
How dare she, eh? You just wrote in another post that you believe humans will become extinct and that there’s no point saving us. So she’s right?

Reading or trying to comprehend anything complex is beyond perhaps 80 to 90 percent of people.
It is too much like work, and intellectual capacity also plays a part.

This takes 3 minutes of your life and not much effort. I am not condescending, I would prefer to watch than read most of the time as well.frank lee bent wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 5:59 am Reading or trying to comprehend anything complex is beyond perhaps 80 to 90 percent of people.

In the middle ages she'd be burnt at the stake.

Asperger’s syndrome was removed in DSM-5 and replaced by autism spectrum disorder. The diagnosis is no longer given. There are various degrees of autism instead.
