Google reacts to Trump

as does the civilized world. "A petition organised by academics in the US opposed to the executive order includes the signatures of 11 Nobel laureates. "

I can understand the uproar against "Visas for nationals of six countries, including Iran and Iraq, will not be issued for the next three months"
however, how does Google fit in here? Google's employees can work online from anywhere around the world.

Why not take issue with "reports of "green card" holders, who are allowed to work in the US, being prevented from getting on flights"?

Google's position:
Google would not confirm or deny reports that it has recalled staff travelling overseas back to the US.

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai, in a memo to staff seen by Bloomberg News, said more than 100 company staff are affected by the order.

The company has reportedly told these staff to get back to the US.

The employees in question normally work in the US but happened to be abroad when the order was made. The concern is that even if staff have valid visas, they may still be at risk if they are from one of the seven countries targeted by the order and they are outside the US when the order kicks in.

Google would not comment on whether staff had been recalled. It issued this statement:

We’re concerned about the impact of this order and any proposals that could impose restrictions on Googlers and their families, or that could create barriers to bringing great talent to the US. We’ll continue to make our views on these issues known to leaders in Washington and elsewhere.

Green cards and visas:
Human rights groups and NGOs say they have been inundated with calls from people concerned they will not be able to return to the US, just hours after Donald Trump signed an executive order banning the entry of nationals from a string of predominantly Muslim countries.

Social media was flooded with claims of people being denied entry to the US, even if, in some cases, they were green card holders. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) said it had received reports that green-card and other visa holders had been denied boarding and admission into the US at various airports.

More here on what the new executive order entails.

Donald Trump refugee ban: Full text of executive order
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 50741.html

The new immigration executive order is not just a refugee ban, it also has implications for all non-US citizens who are applying to enter the US. US citizens with Cambodian wives, girlfriends and family who need visas will probably be affected by the new law, at least initially, because of increased screening of applicants, their identity documents, and personal data.
Sec. 4. Implementing Uniform Screening Standards for All Immigration Programs. (a) The Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the Director of National Intelligence, and the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation shall implement a program, as part of the adjudication process for immigration benefits, to identify individuals seeking to enter the United States on a fraudulent basis with the intent to cause harm, or who are at risk of causing harm subsequent to their admission. This program will include the development of a uniform screening standard and procedure, such as in-person interviews; a database of identity documents proffered by applicants to ensure that duplicate documents are not used by multiple applicants; amended application forms that include questions aimed at identifying fraudulent answers and malicious intent; a mechanism to ensure that the applicant is who the applicant claims to be; a process to evaluate the applicant’s likelihood of becoming a positively contributing member of society and the applicant’s ability to make contributions to the national interest; and a mechanism to assess whether or not the applicant has the intent to commit criminal or terrorist acts after entering the United States.

US citizens who hold dual nationality are being refused entry to the United States.
What's that line about all citizens being equal ? Scary shit. Who's next ?
A homeland security spokesman said on Saturday night that green card holders – in effect, permanent residents – will also be covered by the ban, while a senior White House official indicated it was likely to be extended to other countries. A state department spokesman confirmed that travellers from the named countries who have dual nationality will not be able to enter the US for 90 days. Members of religious minorities from those countries will, however, be granted immigration priority.

Haha, No fundamentalist terrorists in Egypt. What's this guy on? I guess he has a master-race plan.
They should add all those dodgey eastern block countries, wait till his wife pops back home, and then deny her entry on return.
