Global Effects of the COVID-19 Virus (Coronavirus)

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Eg,, imagine a Palestinian person contracting the virus and traveling to Israel, spitting/coughing on his/her hand every five minuets as they enter a bus, go up the escalator in a shopping center and other popular places.

This is going to be the cheapest biological weapon that the oppressed in this world have ever had.
It certainly crossed my mind as soon as I heard that Iran had an outbreak. Now they have, they can store it and breed it. It is not a huge leap to give it Hezbolla. If Israel have a sudden and widespread outbreak with no connections they might well conclude it is a deliberate infection. And that will be trouble.

China has two factors on it's side; it's a total dictatorship (with a compliant populace) and it has endless resources to back up it's policies. Western governments have none of this. This virus is out there and I don't see anything stopping it. We may be able to slow it down but that will be it. And that will just drag this out for month's or years.

So far over $3 Trillion has been wiped off share prices as the markets begin to realise that just about everything is a 'sell'. It's just the start; wait until the true numbers start to be revealed.

Things are going to get a lot worse.
Agree, but what about other non western gov'ts?? Iran, India, Africa, Sth America, Indonesia, Middle East....they are even less likely to be able to deal with it. And the knock on effects..

US is stopping flights from countries other than China now.. How long before borders close up and trade shuts down?

This thing looks more likely to cause the next financial crash..contagion becomes self fulfilling..
Agreed, the bulls have been stopped in their tracks and the bears will be saying this is the 'Black Swan Event' that will cause the next great financial meltdown. For once in the last 12 years, they might be right....

All I know is my niece's factory is closed due to no materials and my sister-in-law's is one day on one day off.

Ironman has requested an airlift.

The reports say 160,000 people in 200 factories are under pressure right now, with 10 already shuttered.

'FLU' does not do this...

Looking on the bright side, a meltdown of the Cambodian Stock Exchange should not panic the world markets too much.

This is the beginning.

Companies all over the world are depleting stocks with no replenishment date in sight. Even if China goes flat out from tomorrow, it will take many months to just catch up with back orders and fulfil new ones. Those Chinese factories (and agents) boastful claims of being able to produce 100,000 widgets a month are going to get exposed as BS. Many Chinese suppliers are just agents for the real factories and those factories will have big and regular direct customers of their own to satisfy.

Companies worldwide are re-thinking their minimum stock levels, 30 days of stock is no longer enough, they will want more - if they can afford it and if can hold it. I have some experience in importing from China and I know that there are many small companies that import from Chinese suppliers who are nothing more than agents and have no authority to demand the factory to produce their orders.

In normal time when factories are chasing business that all works fine, but when they have 180 days of production booked and guaranteed (with LC's), these agents are going to have nowhere to place their orders.

The guy with only Chinese suppliers and a 20,000 sq ft (nearly empty) warehouse plus 20 staff doing nothing is going to be utterly screwed.

Luckily with Terrasyss and A1 MEP Supply, we built up direct factory relationships, but the problems remain. The ships are piled up at the ports. Our air cargo is not guaranteed. Overall hit at the moment is 50%. We too have limited buffer stock. We can't even sign for new projects, as the construction firms are hesitant at the moment.

We have buckled up for a rough ride until June at the earliest.

Mish's beer rations are static luckily, but if that aluminium runs out!!! ohhhh the horrors :beer3:

Well that's It. I have decided I'm not going to Perth or Adelaide if I cannot buy toilet paper.

In Western Australia’s capital city of Perth, a Coles supermarket in Claremont – west of the city – had been cleaned out, with photos showing a bleak snacks section and an empty toilet paper aisle.

Meanwhile in Adelaide, images showed huge queues inside Costco and pallets emptied of toilet paper, which is usually available to buy in bulk at the retailer.
