This type of attack is likely far more common than is reported. Nearly 20 years ago I was traveling around India. In Bangalore, one incident stood out. A foreign couple were out together, the woman decided to get a tuk-tuk home, he took her to a remote spot and raped her. Meanwhile, her boyfriend tried to score some drugs, and got battered to death.

Plenty of reports the past few years of local women being gang raped, and I do remember a white boy or two getting killed by angry mobs in India, but reports of foreign women being attacked and raped there haven't seem to have gotten much press, if in fact they do occur with any regularity. Or I have just overlooked them.John Bingham wrote:This type of attack is likely far more common than is reported. Nearly 20 years ago I was traveling around India. I'd say there's a lot reported in the UK. Google was full of the latest report, so they are well down google.Soi Dog wrote: but reports of foreign women being attacked and raped there haven't seem to have gotten much press, if in fact they do occur with any regularity. I worry for naïve western women, who just don't understand the potential risks of being a white woman in some situations.

Gang rape in the UK was extremely rare pre mass immigration from some countries.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:I wonder what prompts gang raping, both psychologically and culturally. It definitely seems to be prevalent in countries like India and Pakistan.
Re the countries you named - Pakistani's are gang raping and grooming white girls, including kids. It's almost an epidemic. Most cases are 2nd generation!!! It got swept under the carpet for years, as people were scared of being labelled racist. We are talking thousands of known cases that have came to light. Who knows how many there really are.

I'm not sure if it's so much a matter if wrong/right but of concept and understanding. My experience is that many self-professed atheists (who are often actually hurt/disillusioned/disappointed believers) have a mental flowchart of litmus tests to run through regarding faith, looking for any point at which they can say "Well, nope, that right there is why religion is false/evil/wrong" so they can go back to nursing their hurt etc. without ever having to personally address the reality of God.Soi Dog wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong on M.T.
I'm not saying you, SD, because I personally think you're closer to God (in whatever form you understand him) than many.
Here's an interesting interview with Mother Theresa.

I blame the victim. sorry. Its like my neighbor...shes 24 kinda cute...very white skin. She thinks nothing of it walking around late at night alone near Russian Market. I keep warning her to be careful but her answer is I'm paranoid and stop painting the brush.
Shes so green of reality its scary but the same goes for these morons who think India is full of candy cane kisses and lollypop smiles.

I would just stay out of those countries. This ain't the first time this has happened over there.
Re: Gang rapes of female foreign tourists in India
Stay out of which countries? Those countries in which a gang-rape occurs? You recommend nobody ever go to an incredible country like India because of a handful of despicable crimes perpetrated by a few scumbags? Better personal security and awareness is definitely required in some places and situations, sure. But to dismiss the entire country? Might as well lock yourself in your own house and never leave. Do gang-rapes or assaults never happen in the country of your birth?JohnDavis wrote:I would just stay out of those countries. This ain't the first time this has happened over there.
I wouldn't recommend anyone enter parts of my home town under any circumstances, unfortunately, much less a lone female tourist asking directions.

A repressive society in general with not much chance to improve your social status and lot in life. Sexual frustration due to no sex before marriage, which can become permanent if you are too poor/too low cast to find a wife. India also has a shortage of women which doesn't help.Bitte_Kein_Lexus wrote:I wonder what prompts gang raping, both psychologically and culturally. Not sure that attacks on women are becoming more common, or if they are just being reported more often...
