Re: France prostitution: MPs outlaw paying for sex
Good points. What about other forms of prostitution? Massage parlors, lap dancing clubs, escorts for business men, the local churches recently converted into brothels ( no joke)?ali baba wrote:It has already been proven to work since levels of street prostitution have fallen dramatically in Sweden whilst being 2 to 3 times higher in Germany where prostitution is legal. If you only consider a law to be a success if the act it prohibits is entirely eradicated then laws against murder, theft and slavery are failures.Ali makes an interesting point, I expect it's just another social experiment that I can't really see working. It's something akin to trying to un-invent air.
First thing is, Is it really 85% of prostitutes that have been trafficked? That would mean that there has been around an 85% increase in prostitution at some time wouldn't it? I'd like to know how they define trafficking. If the figures are true then something does need to be done. How about making it legal and offering amnesty and protection to the victims, so that they can get out of their situation and get back home? Leaflet flying in all the trafficked languages then word of mouth would sort the shysters out in no time. After all, these girls don't want to be prostitutes and if they know there is a safe route out, they will take it. The traffickers will then have no recourse but to traffic to a country without such laws.
As far as the non-trafficked and customers go. Where there's a will, there's a way.
I don't think it will be long before people into prostitution discover the new safer way to do it without getting caught. When the law was biased (morally) against the females in the same way, we didn't see prostitution being reduced substantially. Thats why they brought in a new law isn't it? If the customers start going abroad to do it, then the girls will logically have to give it up or follow. I don't think that will ever happen en-masse as most people hate traveling out of their comfort zones. Especially the disabled or elderly.
Normally things move into the shadows even more when these new laws are introduced. Since the only time I have had sex with a prostitute in Europe was in Adam when I was in my early 20's, it doesn't really appear affect me. If I believed the stats released, I would be interested to see what knock on effects this new law has in the future. More rapes perhaps? The whole thing stinks of more middle-class, mainly female vindictiveness tacked on to the meme of trafficking. More about having a go at men and females who become prostitutes I would say. It seems the people who lobbied for this law know nothing about human nature, poverty or high sex drives, although they are probably partial to a bit of money lust often found in prostitution.
Are they really still saying making it illegal and underground is safer than making it legal? In 2016? After denying the Dutch figures for years?

Nobody learned from Prohibition.
Sin-barring simply doesn't work.
Legalise it.

A law this easy to circumvent should never have been passed.
"Hello, Mrs. Prostitute. Would it be OK if I gave you $500 for this condom? Then fuck you up the arse for free?"
"That'll be fine Mr. Non-Sex Buying Condom Customer. I'll just give you a receipt."

Then how would members of the legislature pretend to deserve their outlandish salaries?TheGrinchSR wrote:A law this easy to circumvent should never have been passed.
