Footballmania sweeps Vietnam

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

U23 Vietnam return home as heroes
28 January 2018
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam and leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Vietnam Football Federation and the Vietnam Youth Football Training Centre joined thousands of football fans at the airport to welcome the team.

A ceremony is scheduled to be held at the My Dinh National Stadium by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to honour the footballers and their coach Park.

Vietnam became the runner-up at the AFC U23 Championship after losing 1-2 to Uzbekistan in the final in Changzhou, China, on January 27.

The team defeated Australia 1-0 in the group stage. They won over Iraq in the quarterfinals and Qatar in the semifinals with penalty shootouts. With these achievements, Vietnam became the first Southeast Asian squad to compete at the AFC U23 final.

The final was played in a snowstorm. The game had to be stopped a few times because there was so much snow on the ground. Took a long time to clear. The Uzbeks were wearing white socks and shorts. Difficult to see them sometimes even difficult to see the Vietnamese in red. Doubt the Vietnamese ever played in that much snow before.

For most of the team it was the first time that they had seen snow.

Ha Noi was crazy yesterday.

So was Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh on Big Game Day. Vendors made a killing. But the VN team deserved all the attention and accolades.

Under23? and they even lost.
The Vietnamese people are a thankful lot to play for.
Many moons ago I used to be in Cairo when Egypt won the Africa cup, that was something.
