From the sounds of things it's sounding more and more likely that the trigger for the escalation was a struggle for the officers gun which resulted in a shot fired while he was still sitting inside of his car.
If that holds to be true, I would ask all of those defending the dead man what they think he would have done had he gotten the gun away from the cop? My guess is he would have shot an unarmed police officer.

police ( claim) they did NOT fire any shots.

but it took 6 shots ( 4 to the arm as he could aim ) to bring him down and one to the top of his head ( the kill shot) Excessive force?
if the video of the store an him stealing cigars is true, would bet $$ to it was not his first time doing this.
