If there isn't a country called Palestine, why is it mentioned so many times in all the agreements going way back to 1917, and probably before that.
I'm not going to read those Wiki articles for reasons I have pointed out in other posts. The country of Palestine was just a proposal that has been continuously rejected by the Arabs who demand to have Israel wiped off the map.
No, I'm thinking your not going to read those articals because you have already been brainwashed by the media and expanding your knowledge on the subject may change your mind and prove you have been wrong in your thinking of the subject.

Re: Extremist settlers rapidly seizing West Bank land
how can they issue , unless they are a country?
As of June 2024, the State of Palestine is recognized as a sovereign state by 145 of the 193 member states of the United Nations, or just over 75% of all UN members. It has been a non-member observer state of the United Nations General Assembly since November 2012.

There may be some truth in that, but how else can a war be fought?problem is, for every 1 that the IDF kills
5 more+ will take their place
There are two alternatives I can think of:
1. The Genghis Khan "subjugate or else" method. If your enemy agrees to the first you can get some tributes, trade and friendly relations. If they don't agree every living thing is killed, everything useful is looted and the whole place is razed. A giant pyramid of skulls is optional.
2. Cambodian "kill relatives" method. Kill your enemy and every single member of their family. Also killing any of their associates is a possibility. Pol Pot was good at this. The method is also employed in an extreme manner in the classic Cambodian novel "Tum Teav", popular with kids.
Either way should prevent too many reprisals.

I wonder if there is anyone still alive over there who lived under Ottoman rule.
(and what they'd say about the current governance model)

It seems like they've been trying to wipe each other out for as long as I can remember, with no success. And even if one side did manage to kill every single person on the other side, they'd then need to deal with their allies in the area who would vow retribution and the shitshow would continue.John Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 6:10 pmThere may be some truth in that, but how else can a war be fought?problem is, for every 1 that the IDF kills

I think the only way it could end is when climate change, or something else, makes the whole area uninhabitable and everyone just drifts away or dies in their 'god-given' homeland.

They don't really have any allies, they burned their bridges with all surrounding Arab states long ago.
There are some amazing plantations interspersed with the mostly arid land in Israel. Hopefully these can survive and expand.

I have read the articles on Wiki referring to the Arab-Israeli confilct long ago. I know the type of people who edit those pages.Tootsfriend wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 7:33 amscott61 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 6:33 pmTootsfriend wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 4:21 pm

Which media could I have been brain-washed by? The overwhelming majority of the media sees the Arabs as victims and consider Israel as a European country - which just happens to be in the Middle East. That is, the Israelis should know better and the Arabs can't help themselves.
I explained why I won't take the exclusive word of Wikipedia on subjects which are prone to subjective bias. Did you read the United Nations info on my link? That made clear there is no state of Palestine.

Re: Extremist settlers rapidly seizing West Bank land
I don't follow the situation closely so really don't know much about it, but aren't there groups like Hezbollah still supporting Palestine, probably as Iran's proxies? If they (Palestine - or whatever we're calling it for now) were wiped off the face of the earth it's hard to imagine the rest of the Arab world saying fair enough, the Jews won, it's over.John Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 8:19 pm They don't really have any allies, they burned their bridges with all surrounding Arab states long ago.

As for the plantations in Israel, I thought the whole region was going through tough times because of increasing desertification, heat waves, etc. That's probably only going to get worse. Unless someone drops a few nukes and turns it all to glass, my money would be on climate issues sorting out that mess.
