Ebola nurse - lock her up or let her ride ?
A nurse for Doctors Without Borders back from West Africa refuses to be quarantined in Maine. Reactions range from "Bravo" to "Burn the bitch"...

Honestly, as a health worker she should be volunteering to it in an effort to make sure she doesn't accidentally spread it. Doing otherwise is irresponsible.

She is a medical professional who has been working for Doctors Without Borders during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
Infected patients are not contagious until they show symptoms, so there is no reason to quarantine asymptomatic health workers.
I say let her ride unless she has symptoms.

I say let her ride unless she has symptoms.
To combat the disease, with which four people have been diagnosed in the United States, several states have adopted measures over and above what is called for by federal health authorities. Maine, for example, says it will isolate any healthcare worker returning from the Ebola-stricken west African countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The isolation measures have brought widespread condemnation from the medical establishment and the White House. Aid organizations say the mandatory isolation periods will make it more difficult to recruit volunteers, who typically serve in west Africa for only a few weeks.

The problem there is that she's suddenly contagious, and not in quarantine until she "gets there" and can infect people along the way. Imagine she first becomes symptomatic while at the movies/in a shopping mall/etc. You don't just wake up in the morning with the symptoms... they can come on at any given time of the day.
The incubation period is known and short... she should be willing to sit it out for that long and see if anything pops up. If not, move along and nothing to see.

Yes. Sounds irresponsible.
