Does this disturb you

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

The reason it is difficult to name the 'best' country is that 'best' is subjective, based on your needs and wants. There are indices that rates everything from per capita gdp to education to health and well being to freedom of the press, and so on.

I've never seen the US at top of any of those indices. Generally speaking, we're in the top 10-30. So by any reasonable average, we're not #1. My guess would be that some Scandinavian country is.

Thank you!

Finally, a simple, direct answer to the question.

I agree that the question is based on many aspects and people might not all have a concrete answer, but glad you attempted it rather just listed counties that AREN'T on the top, or just listing countries that are on the top of specific lists (cough, stroppy, cough). Image

one thing;
ask most people in a 3rd world country were they would choose to go ( if they could go) to live an i bet u $ to donuts America would come out on top

Why upsets me is amerca today, is not the america i grew up in and the government is not
government of the people, by the people, for the people anymore

and our bill of rights is being slowly trampled on and if some of those in government had their way many of these rights would be taken away.
such as freedom of religion, freedom of speech, a free press, and free assembly; the right to keep and bear arms; freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, security in personal effects.......

Yep. I'm with you on this, Richard.

It's on a downward spiral these days.

That said, if I could choose any one nationality right now, I'd stick with my current American one. It's the best of the worst, LoL.

It is useful to have an American passport, I'll say that much.

Cops are seizing hundreds of millions of dollars from drivers and bragging about it in chat rooms
http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/8/612097 ... rivers-and
This weekend, The Washington Post published a deeply reported look at "highway interdiction," a controversial tactic that has allowed police to seize hundreds of millions of dollars from motorists without formally charging anyone with a crime. Typically, police will stop a driver under suspicion of drug trafficking, seize their cash as evidence, and refuse to return it without a legal challenge. Only one in six seizures were challenged, typically because of the high cost of legal assistance.

HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS SEIZED, ALL WITHOUT PRESSING CHARGES

But the legal justification is only part of the practice. As private consultants sought to expand the practice, they turned to surprisingly familiar methods, including an encrypted chat room where officers could brag about their latest hauls, share tactics, and spread private information about juicy targets passing through other jurisdictions. Known as the Black Asphalt Electronic Networking and Notification System, the chat room has over 25,000 members spread across the country, most of whom are law enforcement officers. Until recently, it was hosted at a DEA intelligence center, but has never received any official government oversight. Within the system, officers are encouraged to brag about particularly big hauls, and the member with the highest seizure total at the end of the year is dubbed a "Royal Knight."

In other words, it's Reddit for the highway interdiction, turning an otherwise sketchy practice into a game of online oneupmanship. If highway cops aren't encouraged to make seizures within their department, they can get that encouragement online, with plenty of other interdiction-happy cops cheering them on. And the encouragement works: seizures have more than tripled since 2000. Any dissenting voices, worried about the legal or moral implications of grabbing cash based on the thinnest tissue of reasonable suspicion, are kept out of the conversation entirely.
Commenter:
The Daily Show did a piece on this and they seem to have found some victims and lists of other victims: http://thedailyshow.cc.com/videos/pjxlr ... -patrolmen
(note: you need a USA Geo-located IP to play the 5 min clip, 'ZenMate Chrome' works.)
The website bad cop no donut posts weekly articles on innocent people being robbed on the road by cops. Maybe don’t wait for news to be spoon-fed to you, and go out and find it yourself.

$5 Billion a year stolen from motorists.

Doesn't that seem similar to Thailand/Cambodian practice?

In Canada they need to bust a grow-op or metlab to seize property.

John Stossel - Policing For Profit

http://www.creators.com/opinion/john-st ... perty.html
"One of the main reasons they do this and why they love civil forfeiture is because in Texas and over 40 states and at the federal level, police and prosecutors get to keep all or most of the property that they seize for their own use," he said. "So they can use it to improve their offices, buy better equipment."

Obviously, that creates a big temptation to take stuff .

This is serious, folks. The police can seize your property if they think it was used in a crime. If you want it back, you must prove it was not used criminally. The burden of proof is on you. This reverses a centuries-old safeguard in Anglo-American law against arbitrary government power.
Radley Balko of Reason magazine keeps an eye on government property grabs: "There are lots of crazy stories about what they do with this money. There's a district attorney's office in Texas that used forfeiture money to buy an office margarita machine. Another district attorney in Texas used forfeiture money to take a junket to Hawaii for a conference."

When the DA was confronted about that, his response was, "A judge signed off on it, so it's OK." But it turned out the judge had gone with him on the junket.

Balko has reported on a case in which police confiscated cash from a man when they found it in his car. "The state's argument was that maybe he didn't get it from selling drugs, but he might use that money to buy drugs at some point in the future. Therefore, we're still allowed to take it from him," Balko said.

Sounds like that Tom Cruise movie "Minority Report," where the police predict future crimes and arrest the "perpetrator."
