I don't think Ford Transit vans come fitted with dry ice making equipment. It's the 'last mile' that cause the biggest logistical challenges.Cam.O'Dear wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 10:00 amDoc67 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 9:33 amI noticed that requirement of -70c. That's a very specialised piece of equipment, your average home freezer will go to about -18 if it is efficient and left closed. That suggests that whoever dispenses the vaccine will have to install something specialised and, no doubt, expensive. That will probably mean very few locations and big queues (not a good idea in a pandemic) or an appointment system, which will be slower.clutchcargo wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 5:34 pm See anything funny here?
10 Novemberhttps://www.bbc.com/news/health-54873105The first effective coronavirus vaccine can prevent more than 90% of people from getting Covid-19, a preliminary analysis shows.
The developers - Pfizer and BioNTech - described it as a "great day for science and humanity".
11 Novemberhttps://www.businessinsider.com.au/pfiz ... ed-2020-11Pfizer chief executive Albert Bourla sold 62% of his stock in the company on the same day the drugmaker announced the results of its COVID-19 vaccine trial.
12 Novemberhttps://www.businessinsider.com.au/busi ... 11-2020-11Pfizer’s top scientist tells us the pharma giant is already thinking about a new version of its coronavirus vaccine for 2021 that can overcome one of its biggest limitations
The pharmaceutical giant Pfizer is already thinking about a second-generation coronavirus vaccine, shortly after saying the current version succeeded in a late-stage study. Pfizer’s vaccine needs to be stored frozen at minus 70 degrees Celsius (minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit), an unusual requirement for vaccines.
Country's may have enough doses, it may have enough people sufficiently trained to give you an injection, but unless it has enough -70c freezers - say, one in every doctor's surgery up and down the country - the logistical problem of getting millions of people to pass through a bottleneck of vaccine centres will make the roll out of a vaccination programme take forever.
No wonder Boris Johnson was very reserved about the news, I think he's already been told we haven't got, and can't get, the freezers. Just like the PPE equipment we didn't have and couldn't get.
What is the temperature of dry ice in Fahrenheit?
A block of dry ice has a surface temperature of -109.3 degrees Fahrenheit (-78.5 degrees C).
Also, dry ice is solid Co2. it goes from a solid to a gas. Co2 is not very good for the environment, so there's that too.

Indonesia to start mass COVID-19 vaccination this year -
https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN27T11HJAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia has sought emergency authorisation to start a mass vaccination campaign by the end of the year to combat the coronavirus in the archipelago, the Southeast Asian nation’s president said on Friday.
In an interview with Reuters, President Joko Widodo, commonly known as Jokowi, said plans were already advanced to distribute the vaccine across the entire country.
If approval is granted by the country’s food and drug agency, known by its Indonesian acronym BPOM, it will mean Indonesia - with 270 million people, the world’s fourth most populous country - will be among the first in the world to roll out a coronavirus vaccine.

Re: Covid-19 VACCINE News
hands up i nicked this from the telegraphs comments section today
Vaccines are safe and effective - apart from when they aren't.
Brain -damged UK victims of Swine FLu vaccine get £60 million compensation https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/brain-damaged ... on-1438572
'Dozens of NHS workers are fighting for compensation after developing narcolepsy from a swine flu vaccine that was rushed into service without the usual testing when the disease spread across the globe in 2009. They say it has destroyed their careers and their health.'
https://www.buzzfeed.com/shaunlintern/t ... e-was-safe
But don't worry about all those brain damaged children and medics, that was just a whoopsie, a mistake. The pharma giants don't lie about product safety in order to get dangerous products certified as safe.
GlaxoSmithKline to plead guilty and pay £3bn to resolve fraud allegations and failure to report safety data.

Is Big Pharma addicted to fraud?
https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikakelto ... -to-fraud/
This Forbes article highlights the way that the pharma giants corrupts officials in order to make profits, how they will bypass safety procedures and bribe officials to get their way.Remind me how tied in with the Pharma giants are the Tories and their SAGE advisors to big pharma?Isn't it interesting that from the start the government and SAGE have been hell bent on locking us down and keeping tha scare going until they, big pharma, ride to the rescue with an insanely lucrative vaccine (not properly safety tested naturally.
In 2007, Merck agreed to pay $4.85 billion to settle 27,000 lawsuits by people who had claimed they or their relatives had suffered injury or death after taking the drug vioxx.
Vioxx was safe and effective according to Merck and the regulators - until it wasn't.
I mean what could possibly go wrong with this new rushed vaccine?

Re: Covid-19 VACCINE News
One single short haul flight of a Boeing 737 carrying 164 passengers releases 90kg of CO2. I think we can probably give vaccine storage a pass under the circumstances.

No, your number is wrong. One single short haul flight of a Boeing 737 carrying 164 passengers releases 90kg of CO2
Also, the CO2 for dry ice comes from breweries so does not add anything further to emissions that was not already happening.

Re: Covid-19 VACCINE News
Moderna vaccine sounds promising.
94% effective, on par with the measles vaccine.
No serious covid morbidity in patients on the vaccine arm.
Plus, only requires normal refrigeration.
They will apply for compassionate use and start distribution in December.
This is part of Operation Warp Speed with vaccine already produced.

Looks like plenty of insider trading was going on last Friday before the Moderna news:
Moderna
And their rival, Pfizer:
The markets certainly know which one they think is going to be the big winner in the long run.

and Pfizer, year to date:

Re: Covid-19 VACCINE News
Gotta disagree with that.
Moderna is a small company.
https://www.modernatx.com/pipeline[URL] ... ducts-list
And a huge pipeline as well.

Blockbusters going off patent (like Viagra) and becoming generic will influence the stock price a lot more than this vaccine.
