China's Bullying Tactics
Re: China's Bullying Tactics
Hey what's wrong with Cambodia even China's using the cheap labour here.
Let's cut out the middle man, mind you I've never run a business in my life

Re: China's Bullying Tactics
Spot on.... We all want the cheapest price for stuff thats why we all here hahaha!!!xandreu wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 7:22 pm We all know that all this talk of boycotting China will likely come to nothing.
If an owner of a business which makes widgets has a choice of having them made in their own country for $1 each or made in China for 30c each, they would happily put profit over patronism every day of the week, virus or no virus, China boycott or no China boycott.
One way you're going to get around it is to make it a legal obligation to have products manufactured in one's own countries but frankly, that's just not how modern democracies work.
The only other way is for everyone to accept that they either work for less, pay more for their goods (which kind of amounts to the same thing, ultimately) or they accept waves of immigration in order to manufacture the goods cheaper - a form of modern day slavery.
If we're all honest with ourselves, until we come with some sort of new world order, China has us by the throat.
We may be faced with the stark choice between our standard of living and our standards of ethics and morals. I don't hold out much hope for the latter.
Pretty sure if yall at the market looking to buy the same commodity, common sense will say lowest price
Re: China's Bullying Tactics
The mayor of Prague has put up signs about the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre for the Chinese visitors.
Would be nice if the whole world follows them
Edit: apparently it's in Czech and English. (not in Chinese).. Still a cool move, but they should have added Chinese

Re: China's Bullying Tactics
The Chinese ambassador in Australia has been making economic threats..
In response to an explicit threat from Chinese ambassador Cheng Jingye that our pursuit of a global COVID-19 review could spark a Chinese consumer boycott of significant Australian services and products, Senator Payne rejected "any suggestion that economic coercion is an appropriate response to a call for such an assessment, when what is needed is global co-operation".
Richard McGregor, a senior fellow in China studies at the Lowy Institute, said the Chinese ambassador's comments needed to be interpreted as a direct threat from the government: "When he talks about Chinese consumers, he really means the Chinese state. This would be a government-led boycott, not a consumer-led boycott."

Problem here is that its not that cheap anymore, that being compared to other labour in eastern countries, with better working skills, who too now qualify for Everything but Arms (EBA). The thing is the poor counties are all in debt to China.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

President Trump has done so and since been vilified by the world for doing it. That and the world media hated Trump to begin with so it was an easy sell.Jcml19 wrote:One way you're going to get around it is to make it a legal obligation to have products manufactured in one's own countries but frankly, that's just not how modern democracies work.
The solution will be a faster implementation of robot factories in western countries.
Master lock has already done this. Basic locks are made in the US, almost all by robot.
But what happens to Cambodia? Can the human robots of the Kingdom of Wonder match the machines?

This is simply not true.
As not true as the Mexican financed wall.
As crapulous as draining the swamp.
As flight of fantasy as stopping North Korea's missiles.
As upside down as drinking Draino, ( or whatever it is he is on)
Seriously, how can even an over-the-cliff-with-my-man true believer like you say something as obviously bulldust as ^^^ that?
Re: China's Bullying Tactics
Robots replacing workers is sort of irrelevant when it comes to bringing back jobs domestically regardless of the origin... Manu jobs are gone and will be the case for developed countries regardless of the political ramblings..newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 8:34 am President Trump has done so and since been vilified by the world for doing it. Capitalism is wat it is.. the lowest cost of production is the goal otherwise C-suite are not doing their jobs.
Requiring x % of production domestically is no beuno for capitalism and free markets.. suck for the workers but thats the hand they are dealt.
