China aims to 'Make China Great' with world's largest development plan

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

No one blames the Chinese leaders for doing "what is best for China". It is to be expected. But stop bitching and whining when other countries finally start doing what is best for themselves again too.
Finally start? Have they ever stopped? Are you suggesting that western or other nations have not acted primarily in their own interests in recent history? Or even since 1939?

Could you perhaps name one of these 'other countries' that has so selflessly acted in the interests of other nations?

I have one big beef with Chine, the wanton (not Wonton, LOL) destruction of the environment and wildlife everywhere they go. I suspect if westerners started hunting pandas to extinction to make their willies bigger, the Chinese would not be amused.

The South China Sea dispute is a perfectly understandable and precedented behaviour for a superpower, given the proximity to the mainland...remember when Russia wanted to supply missiles to Cuba?

Even America istelf has not clarified its exact position on the issue, in part because Taiwain claims the area within the 9-Dash Line too.

Great to make business here and Chinese people are amazing. No any other country have the amount of smart people than China.
Yeah, well almost no other country has the same population.

Smart? Hmmm. Hardworking, I agree.

None. No other countries have acted selflessly ever. Nor should any country be expected to. But the short-sighted US politicians have acted foolishly (or criminally) for over two decades by not reacting at all as intellectual property was stolen and Chinese markets blocked off to foreign competition while western countries have been flooded with Chinese government-subsidized goods made with NO environmental considerations or corporate taxes paid, thus putting US companies at a massive price disadvantage and as American manufacturing jobs have bled away. As I clearly wrote, China is not to blame. They are correctly and successfully looking after their own interests. But fuck any Chinese complaining about things finally changing from the US perspective on trade and back to a more protective approach. There is no free trade with China, so there is no fair trade with China, and that can go two ways.

China is taking over
maybe in Cambodia and some impoverished African countries.
they remain completely dependent on USA for their continued export driven economy though.
certainly the behavior of PRC visitors to the region is highly objectionable, though maybe as time goes on they will mature.
they are cordially disliked by Khmers in SV for good reason.

The market is flooded with Chinese-made goods because there is a demand by Americans, it is that simple. The supply and demand mantra cuts two ways. The US uses cheap labour in China to boost profits, do you expect china to forego any reciprocal benefits? America has tariffs etc, they benefit in one way, China benefits in another. It's a relationship called trade. You should not be angry, nor surprised at the Chinese taking advantage, simply change the American politicians. I'm totally with you on that, yet American voters seem hell-bent on the destruction of their own existence.

wrt corporate taxes, I think you should research how little tax corporations in the US pay ...

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/09/busi ... eport.html

The jobs lost in the US are often lost because American owners outsource to cheaper locations. You can't blame China for accepting investment by Apple, for example.

Re the environment, the US never signed the Kyoto Protocol, and until recently was the number 1 polluter on earth.

I think China and the US need each other, and both sides dislike what the other does in some situations. The alternative is to cut each other off...and that would be very painful for both parties.

There was an interesting editorial in the Taiwan times (English language). Summary is that the mainland Chinese president for life is directing industry to ploughing vast sums overseas with exclusively Chinese infrastructure, workers, etc. Any loss will be big and multiple failures will be difficult to mitigate. But it does resonate with the China centric world view.

Through most of the Middle Kingdom’s history, China has been the dominator. The last two hundred years has been an aberration.

More worrisome is the geopolitical implications of this view. The communist leaders have announced the forcible reunification of Taiwan and stake their careers to this goal as well as claiming areas that gave tribute in imperial times.

As the Chinese premier increasingly surrounds himself with yes men and purge any dissent, the risk increases.

Expect further long term instability and possibly war.

We certainly live in very interesting times. I odn't have any respect for US foreign policy, but as insane as it sounds, people may miss them when they are no longer number 1.

The only upside is that Chinese food is better, but I guess eating it every day with no options may become tiresome.
