W.H.O. Caught in a Superpower Struggle

W.H.O. Caught in a Superpower Struggle

Caught in a superpower struggle: the inside story of the WHO's response to coronavirus

A little taster of what is coming with the public trial of the W.H.O. I heard a former W.H.O. employee on the radio mention that while it is a health organisation, it is also a diplomatic one. It only gains physical access and information by the cooperation of nations, it has no real power to compel or of enforcement. It makes sense.

"Again and again, the events of January reflected the difficulties Tedros and his organisation faced in negotiating a path between two hostile superpowers, and the egos of their leaders, without any independent powers to enforce compliance and information sharing.

However, what mistakes that may have been made in charting that course have little to do with the lethal fiasco that unfolded in the US in the two months after the WHO raised an international alarm."

W.H.O. is just one organisation that is a gravy train feathering its own nest. Along with the UN they should be dissolved and if they are really needed start again with a different set of rules that are more suited to the year 2020 onwards. Both organisations have got so powerful that no government is willing to say anything against them in fear of themselves being condemned for what they say or do.

Speaking of gravy trains, how much money has gone into the KR trials ,, and the train is so powerful it will not stop.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

WHO, like many other of the non-security UN orgs is problematic, bloated, somewhat corrupted, passively political (at least)
but still crucial. They do lots of good work nevertheless.
Throwing the baby out with the bathwater would be a bad idea.

Very very hard to reform, many have tried.
But to say the world would be better off without them - even as they stand - is just not facing facts. imo.
Even now WHO is helping poor nations get their act together with Cv - not to mention dozens of other killer diseases.
And what is a billion bucks these days anyway?? Seriously..

Same goes for the KR Tribunal even. imo,
It should have put up before the firing squad a few years ago now - the legal fraternity have hijacked the gravy train. But I for one am eternally grateful that these trial happened at all.
Personally I would pay 300 mill just to convict Duch alone - and the case against the KR inner circle was very meticulously documented and prosecuted. In a way that the history books can't.

Be nice if the WHO stopped choking on the word 'Taiwan'....... this Wuhan flu doesn't recognise political boundaries, and WHO should not be a lapdog to the bullying of the CCP.

I posted this on Friday on the UK thread

China's Handling Of Coronavirus Must Face Scrutiny, No.10 Says

Coronavirus has changed everything. Make sense of it all with the Waugh Zone, our evening politics briefing. Sign up now.
G7 leaders want China to answer questions over its handling of the coronavirus outbreak, Downing Street has said.
Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said how Covid-19 took hold and “why it wasn’t stopped earlier” should be made clear as part of a “deep dive review” suggested by foreign secretary Dominic Raab.
It comes amid criticism that Beijing has failed to be transparent about the scale of the outbreak and the government’s response, with Wuhan today raising its death toll by 50% as a result of “belated, missed and mistaken reporting”.
The UK will work with “international partners” on scrutinising China, Number 10 confirmed after G7 leaders took part in a conference call meeting on Thursday.
The G7 includes the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US.
At the Downing Street press conference on Thursday, Raab demonstrated a marked change in tone with Beijing, saying it would not be “business as usual” after the pandemic and there was “no doubt” China would face a probe.

Why would the Guardian lead with ‘superpower struggle’ and not with mainland ‘China has been screwing over the world for decades’ (and the world bends over asking for more)?

Me thinks the rabbit hole goes much deeper than anyone will admit.
