It's hard for me to imagine where they went wrong with so much of their income coming from the government?hanno wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 2:46 pm Second largest construction company in the UK with 40,000 jobs goes into liquidation:

Re: Carillion goes bust
The company issued numerous profit warning but the government still went ahead and gave them contracts to the tune of 2 billion.obelisks wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 3:09 pmIt's hard for me to imagine where they went wrong with so much of their income coming from the government?hanno wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 2:46 pm Second largest construction company in the UK with 40,000 jobs goes into liquidation:

But have no fear: the CEO will walk away with a nice golden handshake.

There are a lot of calls to investigate exactly why this company continued to receive government contracts when it was already in financial difficulties.

The collapse of Carillion lays bare the reality of what is really happening to public services

" we are not willing to pay more taxes "
How much can a koala bear ffs ? They will never be satisfied with enough until you give them the shirt off your back
people should never be willing to pay more taxes until they can demonstrate clearly that they spend the money prudently
and wisely and that will be the day that pigs will fly
As a nation we either cannot afford the services we demand, including the shiny new hospitals and prisons and the wondrous new rail lines, or we are not willing to pay more taxes to fund these collective ambitions.

Re: Carillion goes bust
A couple of surveys have shown that 70% or more people would be willing to pay more tax for the NHS. They want to privatise it, so they are letting it run down so that their friends and mates can clean up.

Incompetence. It's not the brightest and best that work for local government, as they are generally used to hoover up the unemployed so that the unemployment rates go down. It's then impossible to get fired. Plus there's extensive nepotism and cronyism. And of course the revolving door for those that authorise the contracts.hanno wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 5:02 pmBribery does not exist in the UK?tightenupvolume1 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 4:54 pm "Probably paid the politicians too much bribe money"
