British passports to be made in France

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Yeah. It’s actually a Dutch company but that’s not as “funny” as everyone likes the pot smoking daffodil growing Dutchies.

I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum; how can I move it (nothing to do with Cambodia).

I am by no means a brexiteer but it does seem a little off. the extra money form the tender that the French firm offered is going to be offset in the decrease of tax earned from the people they could have employed & the multiplier effect.

No getting around the EU tender laws or shortsightedness from the govt? I am a 'remainer' but I do think that laws like this need a rethink.

The people being interviewed don't help the perception of brexiteers.

Anyway I look at it it's just weird.

Either there's no British company offering the level of technology needed, or there's no British company able to do it at the same price or cheaper than a French / Dutch company. Both are hard to believe, to be honest.

Maybe the Brits were just greedy... Trusting their government would grant them the job no matter what....

De la Rue has the technology, they have been doing it for at least the last 9 years. They also won the contract for the latest lot of banknotes so it purely comes down to the money (Guardian says £120m over 5 years). I am guessing that takes into account the partial loss of tax revenue and multiplier effect as the government is full of great thinking long term strategists.
