Bali Mount Agung Volcano Set to Blow Within 24 Hours

Bali Mount Agung Volcano Set to Blow Within 24 Hours
INDONESIAN authorities have raised the alert level for the Mount Agung volcano on the tourist island of Bali to the highest level.

This time it is rated as a Category 4 — meaning a hazardous eruption could be imminent.
It’s the first time in 54 years such an alarm has been raised.

Indonesian media is reporting claims of wild animals — including snakes and apes — being panicked by the stirring volcano and moving through settled areas.

It’s been a growing trend over the past three days, the Tribun Kaltim news service says.

“It may be hot on Mount Agung. So the animals (come) out and to the settlement, “it reports district identity Jro Mangku as saying.

Men from a traditional village in the volcano’s shadow believe the descent of animals from the top of the mountain to be one of “seven signs” an eruption will occur.

Small numbers begin to move up to three months before an eruption.

“Maybe this is a sign — the sign of the mountain will erupt. This condition is not as usual,” Jro Mangku reportedly said.
Such an animal exodus was observed before Mount Agung’s previous eruption in 1963.

Mount Agung, an active volcano in Karangasem Regency in East Bali, has shown recent increased volcanic activity. Local authorities have temporarily suspended all outdoor activities such as hiking and camping activities in proximity to the crater. Monitor local media reports and follow the instructions of local authorities. An eruption of Mount Agung could impact air travel in the region. Contact your airline or tour operator to confirm travel plans (see Additional information). The overall level of this advice has not changed. Exercise a high degree of caution in Indonesia, including Bali. Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.<<<<<

they are monitoring it, I am headed to Bali next month

IF it blows;

As I predicted yesterday the international press is spinning a small amount of activity on Mount Agung and earthquake yesterday way out of proportion. As usual bad news make good press.

They don't want to report the good news that there's been no lava flow or no release of huge gases .

Nor will they report that there had not been any rise in the warning level for two days .
The last warning was Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency yesterday warned tourists and locals to stay 7km away from the volcano, with experts warning it could erupt at any time.

They also won't tell you the closest that any dangerous lava flows on the hills or in the rivers came was over 40 km away in 1963.

Today's update. No eruption. Slight decrease in activity. However, slight increase in earthquake strength.
Speaking to the press, Santoso explained that the raising of the alert warning level to its maximum level of “4” has yet to have any impact on domestic and international flight operations to and from Bali. At the same time, the Directorate and all related stakeholders already have contingency plans in place to address the impact of any eruption on normal flight activities.

Until Saturday morning, September 23, 2017, there was no detection of volcanic ash emitted from Mount Agung and all flight operations to and from Bali were operating normally.
Accordingly, Virgin Australia announced on Saturday, September 23, 2017, that all flights heading to Bali were stopping in Darwin to take on additional fuel that would allow them to return to Australia if Mt. Agung erupted while their flight was on a final inbound sector to Bali.

25 September 2017
- Nearly 50,000 people have been evacuated from their homes amid fears of an imminent volcanic eruption on the Indonesian resort island of Bali.

Mount Agung, 47 miles (75km) from the tourist hub of Kuta, has been shaking since August and threatening to erupt for the first time in more than 50 years.
The disaster mitigation agency said 48,540 people had fled and the number was expected to rise because more than 60,000 people lived in the danger zone.
There are also anti-foreigner rumblings:
Sumerti Jero, a religious leader from nearby Karangasem, said the mountain’s rumblings were a sign it was angry with tourists flouting local customs.
“For example, they have been disobeying the ban for women who have their period to climb Mount Agung,” he said, adding that many tourists would also urinate on the mountain.

"Seventy to 80 per cent within days, probably 90 per cent within weeks to months, but I'm reserving that 10 per cent in case it doesn't happen — so the odds are on, but whether it proceeds to an eruption or not is still uncertain," he said.

When volcano experts say Bali's Mount Agung is "extremely likely" to erupt within hours or days, it is because of charts like the one above.
Stations routinely collect data on tremors within the mountain, with a spiky red line charting the rise and fall of Agung's mood day after day.
