Is Australian govt deliberately over-reacting ?
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 54003.html
Could it be that security risks are being played up in order to curb basic rights in Australia ?
Big news about 800 officers in raids on "terrorists", where 2 people are finally arrested - 1 of whom is out on bail.(He had a stun gun in his home.) A mentally-disturbed teenager with a Daesch flag and a knife is shot dead. Laws are being passed for Australians' "security".
Whatever next?

Add some public hysteria into the mix:The Prime Minister warned Australians last week that “the delicate balance between freedom and security may have to shift”. The “darkening” situation, as he called it, is doing him no harm politically. The government’s popularity rating is at a five-month high.
Three rugby league fans “of Middle Eastern appearance” were detained at a match after a spectator reported that they were using their phones in a suspicious manner.
Whatever next?

The mentally disturbed teenager was shot dead as he was in the act of repeatedly knifing a AFP officer in the neck and chest...

Sure, could happen anywhere. In GB for example. But, seriously, is a lone deranged teenager in a shopping centre a reason to suspect imminent terrorist attacks ?StroppyChops wrote:The mentally disturbed teenager was shot dead as he was in the act of repeatedly knifing a AFP officer in the neck and chest...
It's not so much the event (knifing followed by shooting) that perturbs me; it's the interpretation of the event. Does one lone nutter mean the whole country should be on alert? What had raised the concerns of police, said the Victoria Police Chief Commissioner, Ken Lay, were reports of the teenager brandishing what appeared to be an Isis flag in a shopping centre. “It’s not an offence, but clearly it drew our attention to this person,” he said. “We made the decision we needed to talk to him a little more about what his thoughts and motivations might be.”
In the car park the two officers approached Mr Haider at about 7.45pm. One went to shake his hand. The young man pulled a knife and stabbed him in the arm, then turned on the other officer, stabbing him in the head, neck and stomach. The first officer then shot him dead. Both officers are in hospital, one in a serious but stable condition.

Hands up if you knew it was a mistake letting these guys in the country in the first place.
I don't suppose that anyone will ever apologise for it, but anyone with half a functioning brain knew that opening the front door was a pretty bloody stupid idea.

I haven't been watching it that closely but I believe the threat risk was raised before the teenager incident, and there is clearly more intel on this guy than what is being released in the media...Anchor Moy wrote:Sure, could happen anywhere. No more ABC, How are you going to watch it now ?
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

Well, for whatever reason, soe Australians seem to be behaving very strangely :

Apologies to Hunter S. - rather than the "weird turning pro", in this case the pros are turning weird.
