NZ, Australia - into winter with Covid-19

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

He was "in his 80s". The average lifespan of an Australian male is 82.50 years (2017).

A second wave? A load of rubbish or just an excuse. Victoria never finished the first wave. They are totally undisciplined and their state Premier should be sacked. Guilty of not containing the virus like other states have done, but also signing up to China's Road and Belt Project without consulting anyone.

Below is a chart that I have been updating daily since mid-March. It shows the number of new cases state by state each day.
It's quite clear that ACT, NT, QLD, SA, TAS and WA were on top of things and the trend line flatteded very quickly. NSW were doing well for a while but never quite got there. Victorians on the other hand were quite happy to party on and not bother to try to contain the virus.

High time the Victorian Premier acted or the borders will be closed until 2025

Australian supermarket chain to reintroduce toilet paper purchase limit nationally
Matilda Boseley

Australia’s Woolworths grocery store chain has just announced it will reintroduce countrywide buying limits on toilet paper, as panic buying resumes in some Australian states seemingly in the face of increased infections in the state of Victoria.

There are currently no other product limits other than toilet paper and paper towel outside of Victoria. On Wednesday, Woolworths reinstated a purchase limit of two items in Victoria on toilet paper, hand sanitiser, paper towel, flour, sugar, pasta, mince, long-life milk, eggs and rice.

The supermarket chain released this statement:

Woolworths will this afternoon reinstate a two-pack limit on toilet paper and paper towel in all Australian stores following a recent surge in demand across different parts of the country.

The precautionary move is designed to support appropriate social distancing in stores over the weekend and ensure all customers have access to the products they need ...

Woolworths Supermarkets managing director Claire Peters said: “We’ve regrettably started to see elevated demand for toilet roll move outside Victoria in the past 24 hours.

“While the demand is not at the same level as Victoria, we’re taking preventative action now to get ahead of any excessive buying this weekend and help maintain social distancing in our stores.

“We have ordered more than 650,000 additional packs of toilet roll into our network, which is an increase of more than 30% on our usual volumes.”

There is a small coronavirus outbreak in NZ, but it does not come from overseas, and there appears to be a mysterious community transition. Precautions are being taken and Auckland coronavirus precautions have moved up to Level 3 out of 4 (maximum).

“We’re expecting to see other cases,”

The “index case” – the first case the Government found out about – is a man in his 50s who lives in south Auckland, the Ministry of Health said.

He was swabbed on Monday after displaying symptoms for five days, including a fever and a cough. He was tested again to confirm the positive result.

The person had no overseas travel history or immediate link to someone who did, or a high-risk worker such as someone who worked at a managed isolation hotel or at the border.

Their close contacts were then tested, including six family-members. Of those, three were found to also be positive – including a preschool-age child who does not attend an Early Childhood Education facility.

Two of the cases have gone to work recently at workplaces in the wider Auckland area, meaning a city-wide lockdown was needed, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said.

The cases are currently self-isolating at home as are all their close contacts.
Ardern said the Government was considering whether the family should move to a quarantine facility.

The reason given for the restrictions was that if the elderly people get it they might die. Everyone agreed that young healthy people do not die. Well, the infection has gone through a lot of nursing homes, and a lot of the elderly have already been exposed to it.

The right thing for Victoria to do now is to return to life as normal. Remove all restrictions. Let all businesses open.

Other people are dying from these restrictions. For example, people requiring surgery to remove cancer. Its time to get back to treating those people.

There are powerful people manipulating us. Continuing the restrictions, is doing more harm than good.

The idea that you can stop this virus by draconian lockdown provisions and border closures is ridiculous. There are other vectors for transmission other than human to human. Despite the WHO downplaying the possibility, animal to human transmission is possible. It is just not considered a significant vector. However, if you artificially lower all the other transmission vectors to zero, then suddenly this improbable vector becomes a cause for concern.

And guess what, you can't get animals to obey your lockdowns and border closures. Birds are going to ignore you no matter how much you scream at them. And dogs will catch birds. Eventually, some low probability route will find its way back into your population, and you have another outbreak. And since nobody has had the virus to provide some herd immunity and slow the wave, it will spread through your vulnerable population like a wildfire. So we get a second wave...and a third wave...and an Nth wave...

This kind of action against the virus is horribly unstable. Even a small nudge from an unlikely transmission vector destroys everything you are trying to accomplish. Instead, let healthy people contract and recover from the virus, and concentrate on hygiene and treatment options for the afflicted. It is much less costly and ultimately a better solution for humanity as a whole.

As long as people keep praising governments who oppress and lockdown their populations, this virus is just going to keep going.

One of New Zealand’s largest supermarket chains has urged calm after shoppers in Auckland flocked to stores on Monday night ahead of an impending lockdown of the country’s largest city.

Images and videos on social media showed huge queues outside stores and shoppers – many not wearing masks, as is now advised, and not physically distanced from each other – jostling to enter.
