Malaysia leader concedes defeat after historic election loss :thumb:
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak, who led the ruling National Front coalition to a historic election loss, conceded defeat on Thursday and said the country's king will appoint a new premier.

At a televised news conference, Najib said, "I and my colleagues accept the verdict of the people." He said the National Front "will honor the principle of democracy in the parliament."

Opposition parties, led by 92-year-old former authoritarian leader Mahathir Mohamad, tapped into anger over a corruption scandal involving Najib and new taxes to end the National Front's 60-year hold on power.

It's a tumultuous result.
The ruling party of 60 years tried all the normal electoral tricks but they have gone.

Presumably Anwar Ibrahim will be released immediately, with a possible return to politics?

funny that all say IF Najib was not the head of the party and running , the National Front coalition would have won, and ironically, Mahathir was head of that party before.
May 10 (UPI) -- Despite setbacks to the ascension of Mahathir Mohamad as Prime Minister Najib Razak's successor, the new leader was sworn into office Thursday after an election that ousted Malaysia's ruling party for the first time in more than 60 years.

The win was historic for the opposition coalition, called Pakatan Harapan, as it took control for the first time in more than 60 years and put Mahathir, Malaysia's longest serving leader, back in office. The 92-year-old defected from Najib's party in 2016.

And when / if ,, Mahathir pardons Anwar Ibrahim for his sodomy charges, then hands over the Premiership to him a few years down the line like he says he will do,,,,,,,,, then the driver who gave evidence in the charges against Anwar Ibrahim had better watch his back.
