On any given Monday upwards of 30 gang members will have shot each other in Chicago alone, often killing innocent bystanders, but they're almost always black as well so y'all look the other way ... Black-on-black violence most certainly occurs, and I don't think anyone would say otherwise. FWIW, I don't think it's ignored, but I don't really think it's the same issue as police brutality. When gangbanger A shoots gangbanger B, he gets arrested and sent to prison. What most (sane) folks are banging on about is when police officers shoot unarmed people (black or otherwise) and aren't held accountable for it. While both scenarios involve violence (generally gun violence) the contexts are quite different. Black-on-black violence seems to get brought up as a counterpoint or a what-about-ism. I rarely see people mentioning it in a way that indicates that they actually care about fixing it. That being said, I hope the 5 black cops who just beat a guy (also black) to death in Memphis get sent to prison for a long time. I'm interested to see how media narrative plays out in this one.

The thing that irritates me is that whenever there's a mass shooting thread, a few people seem to pop up for no other reason than to say "look at how many people black men shoot," even when it doesn't have a goddamn thing to do with the shooting in question.

Maybe I'm just irritated that there are so damn many mass shooting threads. It feels like my country is turning into a warzone.
