Another mid eastern country (Syria) in trouble
Re: Another mid eastern country in trouble
Massive recruitment drive going on here in Iraq at the moment, Iranian backed militias recruiting young and destitute and packing them off to Syria. Passed a convoy of at least 50 pick up trucks full of militia armed to the teeth heading towards the Syrian border about lunchtime today.
I'm no analyst or expert on the subject, but I foresee a mass resurgence of ISIS on the horizon with recwnt developments in Syria, there's still a shitload of them around the region, especially Syria and Iraq, causing plenty of trouble, you just never hear about it in mainstream media anymore.

Assad seems on the run but whereabouts unknown ( 21 minutes ago)

Rebel forces in Syria said they were advancing into the capital Damascus after capturing four other cities in the past 24 hours as a lightning advance by insurgents continued, threatening President Bashar al-Assad's grip on power.
In the early hours of Sunday morning local time, the Islamist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group, or HTS, said on the Telegram messaging app, that rebel forces had entered Damascus and reached Sednaya prison, a government facility dubbed the "human slaughterhouse" by the human rights group Amnesty International.
"Our forces have begun entering the capital Damascus," the group said in one message. In a follow-up statement, the group said it was "the end of the era of injustice of Sednaya prison."

President-elect Donald Trump weighed in on the developments in the Syrian civil war on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday and said the U.S. should stay out of the matter entirely.
"Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!" Trump posted.
In the post, Trump noted that Russia, which has long supported Assad's regime, is "tied up in Ukraine" and apparently unable to intervene in Syria. Trump said Assad being forced out "may actually be the best thing that can happen" to the Russian government.

^^ Well it doesn't happen very often, but on this, I agree with Trump 100%.

Not sure..
Syria is an important piece in the battle of who's going to supply Europe with natural gas in the future.
Russia has their hands deep in the gas fields of Azerbaijan, and there is already a pipeline in place to carry this gas to Europe.
When they will actually have production levels up to pair I do not know, but despite these huge gas fields Azerbaijan is still importing gas, so assuming there is still some ways to go there.
On the other side of the equation you have the US and its allies looking to supply Europe through a planned pipeline running from Qatar through Turkey, and well, through Syria.
Note that Turkey are not going to deny neither side, meaning if Russia wants to fuck with this project, they need to do it in Syria, as the other countries involved are US allies.
Luckily good ol Assad has been willing to play ball and block this, with the Russians playing an important role of course. But with Assad out of the picture I imagine there will be little stopping the US lead alliance to finally start building.

Point being, to suggest that the US doesn't have a dog in this fight seems dishonest, but knowing Trump I know he wouldn't make shit up

Just my opinions of course.

This is Syria's long awaited Arab spring that was crushed by Assad back in 2011. Syria now most likely become a caliphate.
