And the Ebola keeps on Ebolaing...

well sailor isnt it raciest that america doesnt have ebola?...I mean we had it so good for so long...its the fair thing to do to bring ebola to North America. Not letting planes land in the U.S from those stricken countries would be unjust and unfair.
Don't forget you (well, the gay community in San Francisco) gave the world AIDS, so take this as karma. ;)

what now?

canids are not a pool or vector!
not for this or other dangerous virii- you are quite right in thinking the jump across species is significant in therms of virulence and mortality though.

bats and monkeys are known vectors for the first infection- but human to human transmission is the grave danger now .
so if you are in west africa in the bush- keep an eye on the monkeys.
esp flying ones.

in Oz, bats pass hendra virus ( high mortality to humans) via horses as the infective agent.
Also in Oz Lyssa virus from bats- a close cousin of rabies.
maybe a reason for the phobia about bats- they carry rabies too.
More dangerous for recombinat virii though, are pigs and poultry- esp where both live in proximity to humans as commensal annimals.

Cambodia has a lot of traffic with west Africa; coupled with poor sanitation and health infrastructure the risk is greater than the developed world.
so, wash your hands frequently- every 15 minutes will do nicely.

Remember- you live in a medieval society there, and plagues from God periodically visit to punish those without public health and civil engineering.

You should contact WHO because you seem to know more about how it is spread than they do.

The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is "racing ahead" of efforts to control it, and controlling the epidemic will cost at least $600 million, world health officials said Wednesday.

The number of people infected with Ebola has grown to 3,500, with more than 1,900 deaths, according to the World Health Organization, or WHO.

"We do need a major response," said Margaret Chan, the director-general of the WHO.

The WHO last week estimated that the outbreak – which now includes Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and Senegal – could grow to 20,000 cases and could take six to nine months to contain. The WHO also outlined a "road map" to controlling it that would cost $490 million.
